A lot of us were home all summer w/o activities and camps at 4yo! We were, and are, fine, even though every moment of our day wasn't scheduled. What's different now, seriously? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

because it was safe to run around the streets, all ages playing together. You cannot let db's roam like we did, and there is no way neighbors db's will look out for small ones [ Reply | More

there were also a lot more SAHMs then, who were willing/able to let neighbor's DCs just roam in and out of their homes. on the block where I grew up, we were one of the only families with a working mother and she was a teacher who had summers off. [ Reply | More

true, most of the mom's where i lived returned to work part time when we were around 7yo, so we were shuttled around , or left on our own [ Reply | More

I agree, and I've thought about this, things were just different back then. I had extended family with cousins my own age, plenty of neighbors- I walked and biked far from home by myself. Now we aren't near family and not many neighborhood kids to play with. [ Reply | More

i just responded to the other post. i think it's a question of who is around. also, i don't know how true it was that we didn't do anything at 4yo. i don't know if my mom spent money sending me to camp but they did round robin groups and stuff like that. [ Reply | More

^^^i'm planning on not sending to camp for half the summer. but i know i need to plan things for dcs. we'll have to find kids to play with. maybe take some day trips, etc. [ Reply | More
