she'll be fine. two weeks is nothing. if you were sending her to a foreign country for two weeks, i'd be worried about her being homesick. but she'll be in her own environment. also, sorry if this sounds harsh, but part of parenting is learning that it's not always going to be you to be there for your children. for me, the stay in teh hospital is like being in a hotel. they bring you food whenever you want, and it is good, you can get help, and they will help you sleep for about the last time ever. i wish i couls stay there longer. plus, after each of my births the custodian had to come clean up afterwrads because i make a massive mess of blood and fluid. i'm a bleeder and i certianly don't need that mess in my own home. I wanted to do a birth center birth. But 50 hours into labor, the baby's heart rate fell to a dangerous level and I needed a crash c-section. I'm really glad I chose a birthing center adjacent to a hospital. I still had my c-section in the ER though. [ Reply | More ]

yikes. sorry to hear that you had such a nightmare experience. my 1st labor was pretty smooth and relatively short, so i'm hopeful. i just really really disliked the whole hospital experience w/ #1. maybe i'm romanticizing homebirth a little...but it sounds so much nicer than going back to the hospital. thanks for sharing your experience. had one for #1. Long labor (to be expected with the first), but I was in great hands & always felt that both the baby & I were being monitored enough & totally safe. It was so nice being at home...the baby sleeps ALOT the first day, so "help" from the nurses didn't really seem like a big benefit we missed out on in the hospital. Cara Muhlhahn was my midwife...she's amazing. Good luck!! I'll check back occasionally to see if you have any other questions. [ Reply | More ]

are you going to include everyone from the nail technician who works long shifts and has no choice but to leave her kids w/ low paid babysitters who give little stimulation? there are so many factors that go into the quality of care of the kids of both SAH and WOHMs. And testing into the G&T program just really isn't indicative of success in academics or life or anything else really. well, I was more thinking along the lines of kids who go to daycare or have a nanny watch less tv than a kid who is home during the day with a busy WAH or SAH parent or maybe being with an adult other than the parent (be it with a low or high paid care giver) forces a kid to mature in ways that prove beneficial academically. There are WAY too many factors to have this be the deciding one but I did wonder if there was a common thread. [ Reply | More ]
