DH is designated to deal with her and he does a terrible job at it. She called him tonight with all these questions, requests, etc. It all has to be about her. Just have to vent. 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

there is a lot more to this, of course. she's rude to me, gossipy and judgmental, etc. i'm not asking for validation on whether she's difficult - i know she is. these things coming from a place of concern or kindness aren't bad, but coming from someone with her personality it stresses me out (and dh). i hear you, believe me. but try to find the positive in her. my FIL said some really insensitive, rude, and just plain moronic stuff to me when my son was first born, and trust me, i dine out on those stories with friends! but, deep down he's a good person, and he and my MIL babysit my kids all the time, and my kids adore them, so i don't get stuck on his annoying traits. i am trying (really), but i also feel the need to stay on edge because she tends to bulldoze me whenever I'm not on edge. it doesn't help that dh gets so irritated with her and then with me for asking what he's mad about. thanks for your response. [ Reply | More ]

NNP: yes she does. She sounds very much like my MIL who is a giant PAIN IN THE ASS. My sympathies. It's not easy. I just remind myself that she's dh's mother (whom he loves) and I vent to anyone who will listen. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Hi, I wondered if I could hear from anyone who lives in a very old NYC coop and renovated bathrooms (or did them while renovating more of the apartment). I have heard you cannot renovate a bathroom in an old building without updating the plumbing in the vicinity of the renovation. Is this true? How big a job is that? And how much does one expect to pay (before tubs, sinks, tile, etc.) for basic labor, plumbing and basic materials on such a job, say per bathroom? Thanks. I know the cost of the tile, tub and sink we want, plus other fixtures. I am trying to estimate the cost of the total renovation. Assume the bathroom is decent but has not been updated other than cosmetically in decades. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

this is really an apartment by apartment thing....in NYC, you should estimate $25-35K total for a larger bathroom with nice tiles (but not huge or "designer-ish) [ Reply | More ]

I made a point of asking him at mediation last week to check in with the kids and/or be reasonably available should something happen w/ them. She's scheduled to see him again tomorrow and, yes, the questions can wait until tomorrow. I guess I'm just frustrated b/c we had some really good days together recently and I thought we might have been turning a corner. We separated b/c he just doesn't want to be in a relationship, but lately he seemed to be into it. Now, after a weekend like this where he is completely MIA and doesn't even check in to see if the kids are okay (he lives in the building next door to ours, so it's not like he's even very far away), it makes me think those "good" days didn't really mean anything.
