average going rate is betw $12-15/hr, depending on experience and how long the person has been with you. I pay for Metrocard, but not everyone does. No meals, but she's welcome to eat whatever is in my fridge. She gets all the vacation and holidays we get, plus one week of her choosing. No rule on sick time, but we've paid all days she's taken off (only 1-2/yr). [ Reply | More ]

If they didn't need me, I did get paid. (And I was PT 3.5 days a week)If you didn't discuss, it might be nice to pay at least part of what she would be mnaking. try having a talk with her about how pacifiers are for babies, and that it's time to let it go. Then have a "ceremony" in which you somehow get rid of it formally. Someone once recommended tying it to a balloon and letting it float away... but that's not very eco-friendly. It really depends on the seat. Some are simple, some are difficult. Ask if they will give you the manual. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.12.08, 07:10 AM Flag
»
Not too hard. Put it in the middle of the back. Use a rolled up towel to level the carseat if the seat of the car has a hump in the middle. And THIS IS THE IMPORTANT ONE: if the seatbelts are the kind which let you pull on them and they retract, then let you pull out again and again -- PULL IT ALL THE WAY OUT after everything is in place. This defeats the ratcheting mechanism. Then let it retract and really tug the seatbelt to make sure the seat is firmly in place. And make sure you understand how to do the buckle before you take the seat. Some of them (like the Eddie Bauer seats) are tricky if you have not seen them before. Do you have friends/family near by you can have check it? [ Reply | More ]

If it's an infant car seat, it is a snap to install without the base. All you need is the seat belt. [ Reply | More ]

So what's the point of the base? [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.12.08, 07:46 AM Flag

The base is great if you're in and out of the car all the time--you just snap the seat in and don't have to worry about the seat belt. But you don't need the base for most car seats. Go to the Graco website, for example, and look at some of the manuals there just to familiar yourself with some of the seats. [ Reply | More ]
