I was shocked to learn they have 5 k classes. I am afraid that he will get lost in the big numbers and find the environment way too chaotic. Any experience with 183 or thoughts. We toured 183 this past fall as part of the 151 lottery (which 183 is not a part of any more) and I was really impressed. For me, only cons were no computer room or computer instruction, no library (classroom books), and no language option. They said they have about 20 kids per K class (5 classes) which increases to 28 kids per class in 4th grade. [ Reply | More ]

Do you have a computer at home? Computer instruction as part of a lower school curriculum is highly overrated, in my opinion. Ditto the foreign language instruction, unless it's an immersion program. The lack of a proper library would bother me; a classroom library helps, but it's not an acceptable replacement. [ Reply | More ]

Also have a fall birthday ds who had a 98 SB and didn't get into Hunter. This was last year. Felt it would be best to keep ds in preschool (but we loved our preschool) and apply to privates. Got a great G&T spot, but didn't think ds was emotionally/socially ready for K, so passed on it. Glad we waited. Going private in the Fall. Making the call as to whether to send a Fall birthday ds to public K or wait is a tough one. GL with your decision. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] WWYD? 9:00 a.m. in the car with my 1 year old and 3 year old. Light turns green and make a turn. All of a sudden I hear mad horn beeping and I look in my mirror and there is a car literally inches from my bumper. The guy is gesturing and beeping and won't get off my bumper. I turn at the next light and he is still there and I turn into a gas station up to the pumps. He follows me. He pulls his car next to mine, is still beeping. He flips me the bird, then makes a gun gesture with his hand puts it to his head and pulls the trigger and then points it at me and does the same thing. Then he drives off. The gun gesture is only gesture, he does not get out of his car. I called 911 and filed a complaint. Did I do the right thing? 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

kids whine. a lot. not matter what kind of nurturing environment they come from. it takes years to stamp it out of them - when she's really whiny, keep repeating, "you're whining, I don't listen to whines. Ask me properly". I realize this may be a bit much to ask of a 2yo, but she'll still whine when she's 3, 4 and 5. At 2, I would model the correct voice and have her repeat after you. [ Reply | More ]
