np - it's an odd question because no one but OP knows whether this makes financial sense for her family [ Reply | More ]

do what makes you happy! Either way, that's what matters because that's what your kids pick up on [ Reply | More ]

What would happen if DH died or you got divorced? Could you get your job back? [ Reply | More ]

np: in my case, I would be able to get a job, but not one that paid as well as the one I gave up. But I'd also have a lot of insurance money to live on (if dh died) [ Reply | More ]

irresponsible? in what way? if it means you have no source of income and are going to rely on public assistance (presumably not) then yes, it's irresponsible. But if your spouse/partner has a job/income and you want to SAH w/dcs (and s/he is in agreement on that), then no, it's not irresponsible. [ Reply | More ]

I gave up my ft job to SAH and I was making more than that, but I wasn't going to see my kids enough (big law partner). We could afford to do it tho (moved to burbs for good public schools) [ Reply | More ]

No, unless you're putting my family in financial jeopardy by doing us. I make the same, and I could SAH and still cover our expenses for the next 5+ yrs due to diligent saving, but I happen to enjoy my work as much as my kids. [ Reply | More ]
