When did you start avoiding all the foods taboo to pregnant women (sushi, lunch meat, etc.) - when you started TTC or when you got a positive pregnancy test? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Any dietary chages that I made, I made post positive test. Skipped sushi and raw eggs and reduced caffeine and had only an occasional glass of wine. Other than that.....normal and healthy [ Reply | More ]

I ate tons of sushi from reputable places. You can get food poisoning from any meat. I've never been sick from sushi. [ Reply | More ]

sushi (other than fish that's high in mercury) and lunch meats aren't taboo. When pregnant, I avoided alcohol and high mercury fish and limited caffeine, but that's it. [ Reply | More ]

I haven't given up most of those at thirty weeks. I'd just give up caffeine if I were you and don't drink heavily (odds are it won't cause a problem but you'll feel guilty). [ Reply | More ]

Don't give up caffeine now. If you want to drink coffee and breastfeed at the same time, it's better if the kid is already acclimated to the caffeine... [ Reply | More ]

I think she was posting because she wants to conceive and not have a miscarriage. Caffeine is pretty clearly linked to both of those. She has plenty of time to build up a little fetal caffeeine addiction in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters =). [ Reply | More ]

Under 8 oz, maybe, which is less than a small Starbucks I believe. I know there are various studies out there, but I read about a recent one in California which found doubled miscarriage risks when women had more than 8oz per day. [ Reply | More ]
