[ - ] I always give the kids (3 & 1 1/2) good breakfasts and they happily eat them. Except on days when my husband doesn't go to work early, he comes into the kitchen and always makes himself a smoothie while the kids are eating their cereal or whatever. Then the kids whine and clamor for smoothie. I am sick of the battles and I think that on the days my husband is home, we should just make everyone smoothies (he will NOT eat anything else). He thinks we should discipline our kids that they cannot have smoothie even if he is having one. WWYD? 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

You need to coordinate, asap with your school and establish a parent transportation representantive as well as getting the blessing of your school. They may already of transport, no? You only need 11 kids to sign up.....and it will be free....call the school, asap and talk to them. The DOE will determine the routes and stops and the first couple of days may be a a little confusing, but it is worth the $3000 per child, imho. We set thsi up at my private 3 years aog and it has been a wonderful asset to the school. [ Reply | More ]

I understand where you are coming from. Both of my parents are overweight. My mom has type 2 diabetes which can be cured if she lost weight and controlled her eating but she choses to just inject herself with insulin instead of trying to change. My dad won't listen to the Dr's and has sleep apnea and needs to have a cpap mask in order to sleep. I was always overweight BUT I hit the gym 3-4 times a week and eat right. I will never be skinny but I'm healthy. I did this for me and my kids. Your dh needs to want it (as I do) but that won't happen with anyone nagging him. ita. this is what happened with dh- I pushed him to make a doctor's appt for a physical, and then the doctor laid down the law, that his cholesterol was too high, that he was pre-diabetes, etc. and that he had to lose 30 lbs. They all had fantastic things to say and I was very impressed with what I saw. School is very nice looking, great outdoor space, families all seemed very nice, and we met some teachers and 3rd graders as they now do a farmer's mkt outside on Wednesday mornings. Commute from UES wasn't bad either... 40 mins. door to door (crosstown bus to C train). They have pre-K for my 2 year old eventually, and if we still live on UES she can get a variance to the school (gen ed) if she doesn't get into G&T (which of course she will ;-).
