I always give the kids (3 & 1 1/2) good breakfasts and they happily eat them. Except on days when my husband doesn't go to work early, he comes into the kitchen and always makes himself a smoothie while the kids are eating their cereal or whatever. Then the kids whine and clamor for smoothie. I am sick of the battles and I think that on the days my husband is home, we should just make everyone smoothies (he will NOT eat anything else). He thinks we should discipline our kids that they cannot have smoothie even if he is having one. WWYD? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think my husband has two issues: 1) he doesn't want the children to "control" us; 2) smoothies are more costly than cereal. [ Reply | More ]

np: your dh is a bit dramatic. If they are too $$$ then he shouldn't have them either [ Reply | More ]

Ugh. Wanting a smoothie is not controlling. I would want one too! As for cost, kids drink less anyway and there are likely ways to cut down - buy huge tubs of yogurt, buy frozen fruit instead of fresh, generic juice, etc... [ Reply | More ]

so your dh is allowed to eat BRAND and the kids have to eat NO FRILLS?? I don't understand his logic. The family should all be allowed to eat the same thing..His palate (sp?) is no better than theirs nor are his taste buds [ Reply | More ]

OP: TY for your responses. It helps to know the kids and I are not unreasonable to expect DH to "share" his smoothies. [ Reply | More ]

OP: I agree. I make sure to do all my cookie eating after the kids are in bed! [ Reply | More ]

yeah. i think it's not worth the arguing, i think it's actually not fair to them, and i don't really like the message it sends. as a parent, i have certain priveleges but i don't want food to be included. [ Reply | More ]

Besides all the sensible posts above, the rule in our house is that DH is not allowed to do anything (like make himself a smoothie and not sharing) that makes my taking care of the kids more difficult, and vice versa. [ Reply | More ]
