how much can you harp on DH about his weight ? I cook healthy food, exercise, etc and he tries... he says he tries... but the weight is unhealthy and unattractive. What can I say ? How much nagging is OK ? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

nagging isn't ok at all. Nagging isn't helpful. Many thin ppl think it's easy to lose weight. It isn't. That has to come from him and many ppl lose it very slowly. Unless you are in his shoes or have been, it will be hard to understand [ Reply | More ]

I understand that it isn't easy, but his dad has had a quad bi-pass and a stroke. I try not to say anything but positives when he exercises and everything, but the Russert thing has me all upset again... [ Reply | More ]

I understand where you are coming from. Both of my parents are overweight. My mom has type 2 diabetes which can be cured if she lost weight and controlled her eating but she choses to just inject herself with insulin instead of trying to change. My dad won't listen to the Dr's and has sleep apnea and needs to have a cpap mask in order to sleep. I was always overweight BUT I hit the gym 3-4 times a week and eat right. I will never be skinny but I'm healthy. I did this for me and my kids. Your dh needs to want it (as I do) but that won't happen with anyone nagging him. GL and I hope he does find the strength [ Reply | More ]

Thank you... I also worry about diabetes and sleep issues. he has started snoring a lot in the last two years and we joke about it... He says, "I couldn't have snored last night. I gave that up !" We laugh, but I'm terrified of losing him... Great DH and fantastic father to our ds's [ Reply | More ]

or: I don't blame you. I had a very close friend who was 47yr old when he passed. He had 3 kids and was overweight. He didn't listen to the Drs and just dropped dead. It's sad but many ppl just don't listen (like my parents) [ Reply | More ]

would he join a gym or exercise with you? if not I think you need to let it be, there isn't much more you can do. make sure he goes for regular dr. checkups though [ Reply | More ]

he goes to the gym or jogs a few times a week but the big big belly is still there. I love love love this man, but i am afraid everytime he goes out jogging that he may not make it back... [ Reply | More ]

send him for a checkup. Dr. will surely do your dirty work for you. Once DH seems self motivated you can be helpful with cooking and encouraging exercise. [ Reply | More ]

ita. this is what happened with dh- I pushed him to make a doctor's appt for a physical, and then the doctor laid down the law, that his cholesterol was too high, that he was pre-diabetes, etc. and that he had to lose 30 lbs. And he did (and he stopped snoring too!) It would be miserable to live with someone who nagged you about losing weight, so I would avoid that at all costs. [ Reply | More ]

I don't want to be a nag and it really isn't in my DNA nor our relationship, but I don't know what else to do... I would hate someone nagging me too ! [ Reply | More ]

You could also think about getting him a gym membership and a trainer as a gift. Trainer will nag about weight so you don't have to. [ Reply | More ]
