An osetopath is not a "MD" but they are equally qualified to do any medical procedure, diagnosis, prescribe medicine, etc. - they are both physicians. The big difference is the school they went to, otherwise the residencies, fellowships, etc. are the same and in fact, in many of the NYC hospitals the physicians are DOs. [ Reply | More ]

yes there is a D.O school and MD school. Think of Progressive vs Traditional (schooling). It's all about the philosophy and way it's taught. NP: I'm a FL parent and I think that the "academic learning" at ECFS looks different in the lower grades -- and that works for some DC (including mine) and not for others. I have a younger DD and I'm not sure that she is suited for FL (but I have time to worry about that) -- but it's very much the right place for DS. [ Reply | More ]

Most of the kids at Fieldston have come from EC or Lower. If they are able to do the work at Fieldston, they did learn a lot in the early grades. Please call up these 2nd and 3rd's and ask them when it was that they placed a kid at Yale, Harvard, Princeton, MIT or Stanford last. For the 2nd's it is once in a blue moon and for the 3rds almost never. While Hunter (with a small class) places in all 5 every year as does Stuy and Bx Sci (with larger classes). [ Reply | More ]

i guess that's my problem -- presentable enough is a tough one... i feel like every other mother around here has a spotless home... i'm pretty clean but it's so hard to keep the house looking the way i want it to. [ Reply | More ]

very nice. it's a small, easy to walk zoo for a cchild that age, and you can ride the carousel [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Does any one suspect nanny/sitter steals little things - like cleaning supplies? Struff disappears so fast, and she's not cleaning my house. 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] we've been homeschooling our son for a year, and I have to say, I am SO glad I am not in the public school rat race. There is a great, strong homeschool community here in NYC, lots of activities, and my son is so happy. 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I've thought about homeschooling. Good for you. Are you doing a pre-packaged curriculum or creating it yourself? [ Reply | More ]

we're using k12.com which we love, although it's pretty intense. The arts, science, and math are great, and my son really loves the history. how old are your kids? [ Reply | More ]

my oldest is 5, going into K. he has some issues though, and will likely be in an inclusion classroom next year. If I'm not happy w/ school, I will homeschool him. I have looked at k12, also some Catholic programs like Kolbe Academy and others. How did you find the homeschooling group? whenever I google, there doesn't seem to be much in NYC or surrounding areas. [ Reply | More ]

it's nychea.org--you can join for like 35 bucks and get the newsletter and lots of info. it's volunteer run, so it's sometimes a little slow in responding, but once you're in, there's tons going on. [ Reply | More ]

Hi: question. Do you find that you get irked, bored and/or frustrated? That is my concern about homeschooling--not that the kids wouldn't be fine but that I would lose my marbles. Not sure I'm cut out for it. Thoughts? [ Reply | More ]

no, i definitely don't get bored or irked. We actually have a lot of fun. We only spend 2-3 hours a day on "school work" so the rest of the time we're in museums, on playdates, playing sports etc. It's not as hard as you'd think, at least at the younger ages. [ Reply | More ]

Not healthy for you to devote that much time to your kid all the time. Not great for the kid either. Also, really bad for society. Why not send your snowflake to public? [ Reply | More ]
