[ - ] a single friend of mine is having an affair with a married man with kids. Teh wife has no clue. The husband says he works late all the time, weekends, etc. but he's often at my friends house. I'm not condoning their behavior, but apparently the husband and wife have very little sex and things are not great. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I don't do much else with DS at home -- he just finished up K -- he does his homework, and then we do other things like read together, play games and do some big puzzles -- but that's about it. It all depends upon the kid. I would prefer a smaller private school because I went to a great public HS in Westchester but it was so huge I got lost in the shuffle. A small school would've been better for me. Then again, many people in my class went to Ivy League schools, so there ya go. [ Reply | More ]

Well I went to an Ivy with kids from across the board, public, private, tiny village schools etc. so I think that is too unpredictable. I am more interested in providing all the possible resources/options which facilitate learning and getting the right resume for getting into a good college. Whether a particular child makes it depends on the child I think. [ Reply | More ]

People who want their kids to go to private school JUST SO they can go to Harvard, Yale or Princeton are just stupid. However, I think most private school parents don't think that way. They just want the best current school for their kids - same as the public school parents. [ Reply | More ]

One of the differences between a private school and a public school dc come college time is that the private schooler would never ever go to a SUNY or CUNY, even if it was more selective. They would rather go to a small, unknown private or out-of-state public college. [ Reply | More ]

Every dc at my dc's ongoing gets into a good college, many of them Ivies. We aren't fixated on HYP, but we know dc will get into a good one. But that's not the main reason we send dc to an excellent private; we do it for the sake of the 13 years between K and college. [ Reply | More ]

What I mean is that we cared more about finding a school that we thought would offer dc the best educational, emotional and social experience during the 13 years between K and 12. there are many moving parts to this answer. but, in short, i'd say about 5-8k for a good sump pump and 15k for interior french drain. of course once the drain is installed, you'll have to fix the floor, paint, etc the basement which will cost more $. GL. [ Reply | More ]

My 2 cents: this is modern american family life, compounded in your case by having 3 kids and a husband who works on weekends. Either you find another day in the week to spend quality time together, or reassess your income/lifestyle needs relating to how much daddy works. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, babysitting, date night out at least 1x week, family time on a different day than Sat or Sun--all these might help. I think the balance in your life is too heavy on the daddy/breadwinning side. Both he and you need to think about what works for your family as a UNIT, not the fact that he works too much on weekends. [ Reply | More ]
