Private Schools in Lower Westchester/CT e.g. Rye country day vs. Scarsdale/Bronxville kind of public school. Which would you pick and why for a girl? Please discuss pros/cons. We will be moving back from London (private schools here) and kids are a year ahead of American schools. Thanks [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

It all depends upon the kid. I would prefer a smaller private school because I went to a great public HS in Westchester but it was so huge I got lost in the shuffle. A small school would've been better for me. Then again, many people in my class went to Ivy League schools, so there ya go. [ Reply | More ]

Well I went to an Ivy with kids from across the board, public, private, tiny village schools etc. so I think that is too unpredictable. I am more interested in providing all the possible resources/options which facilitate learning and getting the right resume for getting into a good college. Whether a particular child makes it depends on the child I think. [ Reply | More ]

Right, and by the same token, without knowing your dd, I don't know how to answer this question. The private and public schools you mentioned are all excellent. It depends upon dd's temperment, which resouces you feel you really need, etc. [ Reply | More ]

There are some great small public schools in Westchester Rye Neck and Pocantico Hills are great public schools, since they are small they have more of a private school feel. [ Reply | More ]

We moved back from London and ended up sending our son to a small private school in Lower Westchester. He was way ahead academically of the other kids at the public school and the kids who are ahead academically do not get any extra help or push, just boredom. [ Reply | More ]
