It's funny how people spend so much money on education for their kids, and there is no guarantee of them getting into a good college. I don't get this crazy obsession over all this. In the end are your kids really happy? Or is it all about you. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

People who want their kids to go to private school JUST SO they can go to Harvard, Yale or Princeton are just stupid. However, I think most private school parents don't think that way. They just want the best current school for their kids - same as the public school parents. [ Reply | More ]

You really think that peole don't expect their kids to get into good colleges after spending similar tuitions? And when it comes to public parents on this board seem a little crazy. Why only send their kid to public if they got into a G&T. It's a little rediculous. Gen ed can be fine too. [ Reply | More ]

np: my dds are in private school and I dont' care or hope they go to Harvard, Princeton or Yale. I just want them to go where they want and get a good education. There are good opportunities besides HYP. Our public option sucks and we don't have faith in the public system..so we went private [ Reply | More ]

One of the differences between a private school and a public school dc come college time is that the private schooler would never ever go to a SUNY or CUNY, even if it was more selective. They would rather go to a small, unknown private or out-of-state public college. [ Reply | More ]

Ironically, a SUNY or CUNY can be more impressive than an obscure liberal arts college. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, of course. But try to find a CUNY Honors College attendee from a private school. [ Reply | More ]

Every dc at my dc's ongoing gets into a good college, many of them Ivies. We aren't fixated on HYP, but we know dc will get into a good one. But that's not the main reason we send dc to an excellent private; we do it for the sake of the 13 years between K and college. [ Reply | More ]

What do you mean for the sake of the 13 years between K and college? [ Reply | More ]

What I mean is that we cared more about finding a school that we thought would offer dc the best educational, emotional and social experience during the 13 years between K and 12. We would never choose an ongoing because we thought it was a ticket to a certain college or tier of colleges. [ Reply | More ]

My dc is at public school and I have the exact same confidence that dc will get into a good college. [ Reply | More ]

^^^And why is it that even when I post about my specific opinion and situation, once I mention public school, I have to answer for all 1.1 million children in the NYC public school system? [ Reply | More ]

I guess I just feel that way when someone says - many people don't have that option (of a good public school). But of course, the same is true of private schoolers - no? [ Reply | More ]

well considering public is something we pay for with taxes..I think the options out there SUCK (at least in our district). I also went to public in Manhattan and it was a waste of time. That's why when ppl have a good option like many D2 schools, they are lucky IMO [ Reply | More ]

I was looking at the list of schools Brooklyn Friends grads got into this year... not that impressive. Wesleyan was about the best-- not that it's bad, but there were a lot crappy colleges on the list too. [ Reply | More ]
