[ - ] suggestions for a picky eater? My 2yo dd is driving me insane. Food is so expensive as it is, but then watching her reject it or throw it on the floor makes me want to wring her neck! Then she wakes up at 4am begging for a bottle of milk. What do I do? 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i know what you mean. i used to say that i shouldn't bother cooking, i should just put the food straight into the garbage. then i realized that was dumb and i started saying that i should just mail a check to the supermarket and not even bother with the whole experience. i'd limit the offerings to a piece of american cheese and maybe a rice cake. if dcs are hungry enough, they'll eat it. and no bottles! what does she like? I have 2 dds and when they were 2yr old I was lucky to get them to eat one big meal a day. The kids at this age cut down their intake but then the appetite comes back around 3.5. As for the pickiness, I give them what they like but hide veggies in it. So in my 3yr old case she loves pasta and butter..I bake chicken or turkey and mix with pasta. I also take veggies and hide in the pasta sauce (puree cauliflower, ect). I also try to serve a little of what she won't try a few times (not too much to throw out) and after a few times on the plate, she tries it. I know it's hard. My sis uses the Jessica Seinfeld book for her twins who are very picky too and it works with them [ Reply | More ]

my fashion philosophy is wear what you like and what is comfortable. When ppl follow what's in or out, many times they end up making huge mistakes. If you like it, go for it..if it's too dated then vamp it up with accessories [ Reply | More ]

two questions. one is how much do you spend on groceries each week without feeling rice and beans poor but still trying to be careful about what you spend (and how many people are you feeding?). Second question is a little convoluted. I commute to work by car about 50 minutes in each direction. i can send my 2yo to a daycare near my home or i can take her in the car with me and do a daycare near my office. the one at home will probably be much easier for me (i hate traveling with dcs in the car and the timing will be much easier for me) but it will cost an extra $200 a month. Not sure if it's worth the extra money. wdyt? [ Reply | More ]

np: if money is very tight then go the cheaper route with daycare. The cost of gas is going up so high that the $200 will help with that. I spend approx $150 a week on food for 4 ppl if that much. I buy local and avoid wholefoods. I don't buy organic milk since it's too $$$. I look for sales and buy in bulk when I can and if my apt can fit it [ Reply | More ]

thanks. the money is enough that i don't think i can rationalize the more expensive option. and yes, gas itself is going to cost more than that. but i really want to make things as easy as i can for myself. [ Reply | More ]

another thing that you may not have thought of, is that it will be easier to pick up dc from the one closer to work, if you're running late. Most day cares have very high fines for being late, and you may not want to chance getting stuck in traffic. [ Reply | More ]

op: actually, i'm afraid of the opposite problem. every time i'll have to leave work early (e.g. if another child is sick and i have to get them from school, or for whatever reason) i'll have to pull dd out of her playgroup early. other issues are that the place near my work ends later than my workday ends (i work very p/t) so i'll either have to stick around or take her out early every day. i don't think it's a terribly big deal, but it is something i'm concerned about. if you work p/t I would definitely pick the one near the house. That way, if things get really crazy at home, you can always drop the kid off at daycare for an hour or two. It's nice to have that option every once in a while, especially if you are paying for it (I'm assuming that you have to pay for a full week, the day cares around here will not do part time). i do work p/t. the one near my house is a morning program where i'd pay a flat monthly fee for the morning plus pay for extra "babysitting" for before and after the regular program. that's why it would end up beign so expensive. the program near my office is an extra hour in the afternoon plus i'd save on the babysitting expense for the hour of my commute. so to answer your question, i'd be paying some of it as a flat fee and some as a per-day expense. so yes, if i was stayed home, i could still drop off dd without paying extra. Which is probably a mistake. Look at all the people in CA who are in arrears or foreclosure because they agreed to a mortgage they didn't understand and couldn't afford. Having a lawyer on their side review the documents could have saved them a ton of grief and preserved their credit histories. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, and it is a good idea to hire an attorney. Your attorney will be the only one in the process who does NOT have a financial interest in the deal going through. The lawyer gets paid regardless of the outcome. They will tell you when to walk from a deal or a bad mortgage. If every buyer had a lawyer representing them, most of the subprime mess could have been avoided. [ Reply | More ]
