Thanks. does your dc join any after-school program or class in LL? or go to 92st Y for 5 days in the afternoon? [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.22.08, 01:14 PM Flag

many who need afterschool do the Y Noar program which has "Y walkers" that pick up for an extra fee. There are some new programs being set up for this coming year, which include door-to-door trans for a fee. Some do the Beacon afterschool onsite, which is free. In our class, many parents have made arrangements for reciprocal playdates, shared drop-off/pickup at hebrew school, chess or other programs too. But if you need a steady 5 afternoon program with no worries, Y Noar with the walkers is the best bet (if you can afford it -- there's a discount if you do more than 3 days... and it's hard to get in if you don't start at K) [ Reply | More ]

My DC doesn't like chess so don't take this as gospel, but i rembember they did chess in school the last month of K, and since then, chess club at lunchtime in lieu of recess if you sign up for it. It depends. If it's an owner-occupied home, with fewer than 3 rental units it's legal to do it, but it can't be advertised that way. It's called the Boardinghouse exception, and it allows families to determine who they want living in their own homes. I had a landlady who only wanted single women as tennants - she had two apartments in the brownstone where she lived - no single men and no families, esp. with DCs. [ Reply | More ]

I understand their reasoning - they don't want a revolving door of roomates, and feel that a married couple will take better physical care of the place as they are perceived as more "grown up" - but there are no guarantees. I personally would prefer to rent to a gay couple. Let's be honest, who is going to take better care of the place :) [ Reply | More ]

if you walk a ton and rarely put it in a car, it's great. our second db is using ours now and it's been a lifesaver. he's now 9mo and eats and naps in it as well as strolling. he has bad reflux, so it's helpful for naps, and our 2.5yo still uses her high chair. it's an easy one-hand push, which means I can hold my toddler's hand while we're all out, and it's easy over curbs, in the snow, etc. [ Reply | More ]

np. the bassinet fabric comes of the frame and the other seat fabric fits on. You get both when you buy it. [ Reply | More ]
