Is "The Piano School of New York" a good school? I saw on the website of LL : "The Piano School of New York provides an after school program at Lab for children of all ages.". is this true? I did not ask this information when I went for registration. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

yes it's true, but DC says it was sort of lame (group lessons, if your child is serious about piano, you'll need to arrange for something more serious, but it's a nice intro) [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. does your dc join any after-school program or class in LL? or go to 92st Y for 5 days in the afternoon? [ Reply | More ]

many who need afterschool do the Y Noar program which has "Y walkers" that pick up for an extra fee. There are some new programs being set up for this coming year, which include door-to-door trans for a fee. Some do the Beacon afterschool onsite, which is free. In our class, many parents have made arrangements for reciprocal playdates, shared drop-off/pickup at hebrew school, chess or other programs too. But if you need a steady 5 afternoon program with no worries, Y Noar with the walkers is the best bet (if you can afford it -- there's a discount if you do more than 3 days... and it's hard to get in if you don't start at K) [ Reply | More ]

My DC doesn't like chess so don't take this as gospel, but i rembember they did chess in school the last month of K, and since then, chess club at lunchtime in lieu of recess if you sign up for it. Some kids are really into chess and there seems to be a lot of opportunity for those who are (but mine is totally not into it, so I don't really have good info for you). [ Reply | More ]
