[ - ] My dog is having surgery today (cruciate ligament) and I am a ball of nerves. Having exhausted my emotional eating habits, what should I do to distract myself? 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

It will be fine. My dog has had the same surgery, twice (once on each hind leg). She's back to 95% of where she was pre-surgery. The next few weeks will be tough, my dog hates crate-rest, but the pain will be gone sooner than you think. GL. [ Reply | More ]

The first one was 4 years ago, the second one was 11 mos. later. According to our vet, about 90% of dogs that blow one knee will blow the other one within a year. Ours is about 70 lbs and was crate-trained before her surgery. The vet will go through it in detail, but your dog will be on restricted activity for about 6 - 8 weeks post-op - pee/poop walks only. Ours was only 18 mos. old when she had the first one and the restrictions were hard on her - she was shredding a stuffed toy a day out of boredom. Who's doing the surgery? [ Reply | More ]

My mom passed away when my dd was 5mo old. Dd is 3 now and is starting to understand the whole "Grandma Beth is Daddy's mom." I call my mom "Grandma Carol" and explain that we can't touch her but she is always with us. We look at pictures of her. We actually have this book "Grandma Moon" that deals with the death of the main character's grandmother and says that the is like the moon, too far away to touch, but always here. Obviously, this may not match your belief system and be of no use, but it's just a thought. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

op - true. my mother had 4 of us, and by ub standards only one is a success (not me, my brother), but we are all happy and able to support ourselves and enjoy life, except my one brother who had drug and employment problems all through young adulthood, which precipitated health problems in later adulthood until he died of kidney failure. did my mother do anything "wrong" with him, or "right" with the rest of us. not at all. it's scary. my point is that, yes you should try to do the best for your child, but passing along the idea that if he or she isn't in some "prep" school, he or she may as well not go to school at all, is wrong. Obama himself should come out and make a statement about the treatment of Hillary. Her supporters need to hear that. It's weak that he hasn't and increases my sense that he somewhere inside himself knows that he profited from it. He's weak anyway. His record shows that he does not stand up for tough positions when it counts. It's extremely easy to be for "change" right now. At least McCain has the guts to speak out on things. [ - ] We need a car just for August. Does anyone know the options for doing this. I have been looking at swap a lease programs but they don't have such short time frame offerings. Are there other options besides renting? 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

We rent a car (from Hertz) for 5 weeks in August and 2 weeks in June. Monthy rental (especially outside of Manhattan) are cheaper than what you expect. Get a gold card and you can build up "points." [ Reply | More ]
