The interrupted sleep is just killing us. Other than locking her into her room (not willing to do), locking her out of ours (can't b/c she'll wake the baby), and letting her sleep in our bed (or one of us going to sleep in her bed), what can we do so she stops this behaviour? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I think it depends on when and how the induction occurs. If you're trying Pitocin, request that they do not break your bag of waters until labor really gets going, as you're committed to the birth once that happens. If no change during induction and you're medically stable, as if you can go home and try again a different day. It's important to tune in to whether your body is ready to birth the baby. (I'm an L&D nurse, btw.) [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] here's a thought: people were flaming someone like crazy yesterday for feeding her kid "kid food" and I wonder why no one ever considers the issues surrounding this, like the fact that young children eat around 6pm and one parent is usually not home then, and that if you eat with your child then you never eat with your spouse and you also eat food, even if it's not "kid" food, that is much less interesting than you would eat otherwise. Is this not a legititmate argument for feeding kids easy things a lot of the time, or at least on weeknights? I see so many marriages failing around me because the kids are the sole focus. 23 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I make my family sit down together every night. We eat together, talk, catch up on eachotehrs day. It is what makes our family work. We don't make our career our life. We have a modest 3 bd house in a great area, we make enough to drive safe functional cars, food in the fridge, meals on the table, and at least one vacation a year. ITA with you. I tried to do the whole letting dc eat what we eat, but it doesn't work. He goes to bed at 6:30, and I can't get home from work at 5, watch him while preparing a meal for the whole family, and get dh home by 5:30 for us all to eat together. I would be thrilled if we could all eat together, but timing makes it impossible. 4yo and 1yo really need to be fed around 6 (give or take a half hour) in order to get them into bed on time and also not have total meltdowns (them, not me). The earliest dh ever gets home is 7:45, and that is rare. More often it's 8:30 or even later. After making kids dinner, cleaning up afterward, cleaning up the house before dh gets home, and getting the kids ready for bed and into bed, I just don't have the energy to start cooking again at 8 o'clock usually, especially if I haven't eaten.
