[ - ] When did you stop assisting or inspecting your child for proper wiping after they poop? Did you wait for them to give you the signal to always do it themselves? My 4yo asks me to check periodically so I accomodate him only when asked. I suppose it is common for caregivers to ignore their requests or leave it up to them? I'm getting tired of 'poop streaked' underwear after she leaves in the afternoon and the resulting sore bottom he has. He hasn't had a full scale accident in about a year. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

DS is 6, and with him probably around 5. DD is 2.5 and I hardly ever need to check her. If I'm in the bathroom when she poops I help her, but she does fine by herself. So I think it depends on the kids. [ Reply | More ]

It is VERY hard to evict someone from a rent stabilized unit. Much harder than from a market rate apartment. So landlords take extra care in choosing tenants for rent stabilized units. They have a strong preference for people with high incomes. [ Reply | More ]

there is no "problem". HERE is how this works: ive lived here all my life. apt turned into market rate a couple of years ago. i was offered section 8 (everyone living here has section 8 btw) and i took it. The rent is now 4500$ per month but what we pay is 1250$ per month for 3 bedrooms. My roomate pays 625$ and I pay 625$. Section is covers up to 4500$. The landlord gets it all. Here's the problem. The way Section-8 works is that once approved, you find a landlord willing to accept the voucher. Mitchell Lama apartments reverted to the landlords, not the city. The city couldn't offer you section-8 placement in a ML building. The owners of the former ML buildings would have to be willing to take the voucher. And because the rent limit for a three bedroom ($1725) is so far below the $4K you cited, we would have to believe that your landlord loved you so much that they were willing to take a huge cut in rent in order to keep you. Not buying it. [ Reply | More ]

You don't understand how section-8 works. The landlord can only charge the tenants portion PLUS the voucher amount. If he market rent is higher that the combined total, the landlord loses the balance. [ Reply | More ]

You are a whiny, lazy person who isn't taking responsibility for her family and is spoiled enough to expect people to cry for her when she doesn't get a massage. As for the section-8, you would never see the payments to your landlord. So how would you know what they collect? [ Reply | More ]

Section-8 is pretty much a black box. Tenants rarely know the real rent paid. They know their portion, and the housing authority sends the rest to the landlord. OR may think her landlord is collecting $4500. But he isn't collecting more than about $2000 from HA for a three bedroom. [ Reply | More ]

you are so funny! i am in this situation, not you. my apt is 4500$ per month, I pay 1250$ out of that, section 8 pays the rest. Bottom line. Why would I be making this up? This is getting out of hand. There are many different situations and just because you searched that on line and came up with this result does not mean it is universal. I think section 8 is being ripped off by the landlord to be honest. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.03.08, 09:15 PM Flag

This is not how section-8 works. There are not many situations, there is ONE section-8 program. There are other housing programs, but there are not many applications of Section-8. And there is simply no way that your landlord is collecting more than tenants portion plus the voucher limit. [ Reply | More ]

If it's taking you 2-3 hours you are clearly unwittingly overstimulating him. It happened to us early on too. We did CIO around 12 months, but we silently in his dark room (external light turned on just a little to give indirect light) checked on him if his screaming had the wrong sound. You are developing an ear I'm sure. We still check to make sure something wasn't really wrong or these days, because we are in Manhattan, that there aren't bedbugs in his bed or - like the very first night he slept in his own room at our country house when a bat got into his room. Little things like that can kind of ruin your night. [ Reply | More ]

I thought it was, but it isn't. When dc wants to read, they want plot. So keep them for keepsakes if you want, but they won't be much good for learning to read. [ Reply | More ]

my 2 y.o. has an amazing vocabulary-puts 3 words together at most, though. However, he has been late on everything-didn't walk until 17 mos., etc. He just started talking like this a couple of months ago. I have to give his daycare most of the credit [ Reply | More ]

np: My 22mo is a big talker. Took him for a ride with my grandpa the other day and he turned to g'pa and said "Good driving, Poppy." I had something in my eye today and was tearing and he said "Don't cry, Mama." He'll enumerate the events of his day, although not in complete sentences ("Hi, Daddy. Running and ice cream and doggy and new shoes."). He also requests foods, songs, books etc that he wants. His words aren't all intelligible to strangers or to me. [ Reply | More ]

So maybe she's just not a big talker. Doens't mean her language skills are delayed, just that she's choosy about using them! [ Reply | More ]

DS didn't say much at that age, but we signed w/ him so we knew he was understanding things. DD (2.5) was talking a lot at that age and has very sophisticated conversations now, but I think she is way ahead of typical. [ Reply | More ]

I bought my ds a ball roll game when he was 1yo (Rollipop or something like that - put the ball at the top it rolls down - repeat) he played with it every day up until he was 2yo now at 2.5 he is playing with it again as we have got it out for the new dc. We also got the Chicco dj keyboard and again it has had so much use. [ Reply | More ]
