A friend just gave me a sancti speech when she found out I had bought an Edison bulb for an antique fixture that I have (it puts out less light for the energy use than a regular bulb, but gives off a really nice glow). She said I should care more about the environment than how nice the light looks. ONE BULB. OP: Yeah, we've actually BTDT - one burst for no reason in my closet, it was a fortune to get everything dry cleaned! Ours was uncovered, but it turns out you aren't supposed to use them in a closed fixture because of the heat as well. Now I get the kind with that has a regular bulb glass that covers the fluorescent loops - less likely to release the mercury if a coil breaks. [ Reply | More ]

Interesting. I had never heard of not using them in closed fixtures. I usually buy the covered ones for aesthetic purposes, but that makes a lot of sense, plus I bet if you drop them the out cover will shatter but it may keep the coil from doing so as well. [ Reply | More ]

Maybe you need to work a schedule where he takes care of the kids on a certain day or a certain number of evenings and you get to do NOTTHING except what you want to do for those hours. I did this with my husband and it helps with my piece of mind. We choose Friday as he was off from work on Fridays at the time. I did nothing. No laundry. No disciplining. No cooking. No cleaning. Nothing. I even held my tongue when my DH fed cold fried chicken and grapes to the kids for breakfast one day. LOL. This will get you out of bad cop mom mode and it will help him see that you can't work kids up into a frenzy and then just expect them to calm down right on cue. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Do you spend equal time with your parents and dh's? We've always spent more time with mine and since dd has been born ILs drop a lot of comments about this. We see them a good bit, they can come see dd whenever they want, and do. Sometimes I go to my parents for a week or so if DH is out of town (working) and ILs now seem peeved. Am I being unfair? I can't imagine spending a lot of time with them without dh since they can be kind of rude/passive aggressive toward me. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Dh's parents are divorced. We visit my mother twice as long as we see them seperately. They've had a lot of problems with it. But my mom lives in the same area as dh's other family (aunts, uncles, etc...) so we don't feel guilty about it. Gosh, that reads like gibberish, eh? [ Reply | More ]

op: this is part of it - I have a large extended family and visiting my family includes them. dh doesn't really have much extended family. i am wondering if i should address this with ILs directly in light of all the comments, or just continue to ignore. it really does get on my nerves. As best you can, ignore. Right now, it's the their problem not yours. If they want to address it directly, then it will become your problem. I refuse to engage in any sort of "keeping score" and that includes feeling lousy for more time being spent with one side of the family than the other. FWIW, my grandparents always competed for time with my brother and I and made life really stressful. I can remember birthday parties basically being ruined because I had to pander to a couple of women who had had their share of birthday parties. It's hard, but ignore the comments for your child's sake. [ Reply | More ]

She did and you could see her withdraw within herself those women are lucky I didn't attack them. We talked about it for a moment and she said it happens all the time but that this was the first I saw of it. I am still so angry. These women were so gross. Bleached hair, botox, way too dressed up for a day in the park. I should have said more I should have screamed at them [ Reply | More ]

I am usually the mom who goes nutty about this, but it has never served any purpose. Just erassure her how much you love her and realize that what the other women say here is true: Insecurity makes nasty comments. [ Reply | More ]

You are right I have to relax, these women are only headed for bad things or are already bad people. My nanny said it didn't bother her, in fact she tried to comfort me! But the injustice of it all makes me nutty [ Reply | More ]

I'm so sorry for your nanny (and you). That is so uncalled for - but just remember that those women have major self-esteem issues and probably will be divorced by their husbands when the botox starts to look too fake, and replaced with younger models [ Reply | More ]

I am sure people make fun of me as well. Too many people need to feel superior by putting others down. Just look to this site for many examples. [ Reply | More ]

don't do it. 3 is a lot and the age differences are big. At 40 you may have trouble conceiving and it could become stressful and unpleasant. raise the two you have and be happy. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Think of the most "shouldn't not be getting married" couple you know. The one where secretly everyone in the wedding half expected one or both of them to back out, or tons of family drama was happening, like one half of the family members did not show. Are they still married? 11 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

of these two couples, this is an example of how things are: Us, going to a weekend of music out of town. He arrives at teh airport with golf clubs. "What's with the clubs ?" we ask. "I told her I was going out to play 18," he replies. He goes back home two days later. [ Reply | More ]

Walked out the back door to get the clubs, passed by and said he was going out to play golf. She would never have come nor would she "allow" him to go, so he just left ! [ Reply | More ]

That was my BIL as well. They went through with it but the fighting continues day in and day out. I tell DH it is just a matter time, once BIL gets over his foolish pride. [ Reply | More ]

Yeah, my soon-to-be SIL will NEVER admit they shouldn't go through with this. So I am one of the ones saying they'll never divorce, just snipe at each other for the rest of their lives. [ Reply | More ]

there were two friends I know who had those circumstances - one of them actually had an "intervention" before the wedding (several bridesmaids confronted her and tried to convince her to back out of the wedding). Both of those friends are now divorced. [ Reply | More ]
