White Meat. From Yahoo Answers: "Dark meats occur in the legs, which are used to support the weight of the animals while they move. These muscles are designed to develop endurance for long-term use and contains a large amount of myoglobin, allowing the muscle to use oxygen more efficiently for aerobic respiration. In contrast the white meat, generally found within the breasts of the birds, are used for quick bursts of power which requires little of the meat-darkening myoglobin. Note that this holds for ground-based bird like chickens and turkeys - birds which use their chest muscles for flight (such as geese and ducks) have dark meat throughout their bodies." I had CVS at Mt. Sinai w/ Dr. Eddelmann w/o an abnormal nuchal and it was so easy and didn't hurt at all. The risk for m/c is about the same as amnio at most NYC hospitals. The data they share w/ you for CVS is about 20 years old. Plus the overall risk of m/c is higher earlier. I was much happier getting good news earlier. [ Reply | More ]

I am in NYC too. My first was an amnio at 17 weeks, which resulted in learning that the baby had a serious chromosomal abnormality (not Downs), and we terminated at 19 1/2 weeks. It was horrible to do half way through the pregnancy. It was awful. I got pregnant 3 months later (I'm 24 weeks now) and we had the CVS with Dr. Stone at Mt. Sinai at 11 weeks. She's great, as is her partner, Edelman. We got the main results back in 1 day. The risk associated with the CVS is much smaller in NYC than the national average, and if you go to Mt. Sinai (for either the amnio or cvs) you have to do genetic testing, in which they'll tell you the risk of miscarriage from the cvs is much much smaller than the national average, and they are in the process of publishing a paper with the updated risk numbers. Anyway, Stone and Edelman are great, and my CVS was fine. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]

This is why you don't do that. I have a March dd and had her tested in erb office in summer. Know someone with a Jan boy who waited 'til fall (around Thanksgiving). Score wasn't great and he was nearly shut out (would have been this past season, imo, but psd was able to pull a few strings the year before). Once I had my dc's score in hand, I chose to apply only to tt with one "safety". [ Reply | More ]

You were lucky then even with scores in hand many high scoring dc who applied like that were SO. My dc did not take the test until November - Bday is late May. We applied very broadly, TT, second, third & safety. Dc got into our FC. You never know. You have the dc take the test at the time that makes the most sense & should, in this day and age, apply broadly regardless. [ Reply | More ]

Your PSD and teachers should have a sense of how well DC will do - if you ask, they should be able to tell you candidly whether you should be aiming at TT or lower. That said, every family should be applying to a range of schools regardless of scores. We started out with 14 schools with the idea that we would drop some TTs if the scores came back low or drop some less-selective schools if the scores came back high. We stuck to that strategy and it worked out fine. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 07.08.08, 06:53 AM Flag

I think having DC take the test at least 4 weeks before you need to complete applications is a great idea. No point wasting your time on the TTs if your DC's score is in the 80s despite what people on this baord say. It just doesn't happen unless someone has a huge connection or a very high SB score which is also submitted. DF wasted time running around to 12+ schools and when ERBs came back with huge scatter and low 80s score - she wished DC had taken the ERBs earlier. She could have better focused her search with the scores in hand. [ Reply | More ]

In truth..they really do not need her help 2 or 3 days a week since their children are grown. One is in high school getting ready to go to college and the other one is entering high school. She has been with them since they were both babies. They love her like family and she can continue with them 1 day a week for now, but that really is not enough for her and the family has told her if she can find a job 2 or 3 days a week in addition to the 2 days I use her..that she should go ahead and take it. I would like to keep her babysitting hours on Wed and Thurs from 2-9. If you need any part time help ....Monica is amazing!!! I cannot say enough great things about her. She is very responsible and takes her job seriously. I love her and wish i needed her more but i don't with one child who will be in school now until 2 every day starting in sept. She is great with both children and babies!!!! She will be available for work on mon, tuesday and friday or i could also switch hours and she could be available on mon , tues, and wed if need be. She is looking for 2 or 3 days. If you are interested...please call me at 917-902-6396 and I will pass your info onto her. She is truly a gem. Cindy 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
