I chose the amnio. Had Dr Saltzman do it. Great man and it didn't hurt like the first time with another dr [ Reply | More ]

Why did you choose amnio? and can I ask how old you were? [ Reply | More ]

I'm 40 yr old. Chose the amnio because yrs back when I had my first amnio, I remember reading there was a slightly higher risk of M/C BUT that may have changed now. I didn't bother researching and went with the amnio for the 2nd time [ Reply | More ]

The risk for mc is higher w/ CVS. But did you have an abnormal nuchal, or just based on age? [ Reply | More ]

I never did the nuchal since it's not 100%. I wanted that 100% information so went straight for the amnio due to my age (I was 36 and 40..am pg now) [ Reply | More ]

No. Initially she'd been advising against CVS but now she's saying the choice is up to me and that I really just need to do a diagnostic test [ Reply | More ]

I see. I know many amnio's are done at 16wks but they do them as early as 15wks (had 1st amnio at 15wks). So maybe if you wanted it done sooner than later you can ask for it. GL with what you decide [ Reply | More ]

I had CVS at Mt. Sinai w/ Dr. Eddelmann w/o an abnormal nuchal and it was so easy and didn't hurt at all. The risk for m/c is about the same as amnio at most NYC hospitals. The data they share w/ you for CVS is about 20 years old. Plus the overall risk of m/c is higher earlier. I was much happier getting good news earlier. [ Reply | More ]

I am in NYC too. My first was an amnio at 17 weeks, which resulted in learning that the baby had a serious chromosomal abnormality (not Downs), and we terminated at 19 1/2 weeks. It was horrible to do half way through the pregnancy. It was awful. I got pregnant 3 months later (I'm 24 weeks now) and we had the CVS with Dr. Stone at Mt. Sinai at 11 weeks. She's great, as is her partner, Edelman. We got the main results back in 1 day. The risk associated with the CVS is much smaller in NYC than the national average, and if you go to Mt. Sinai (for either the amnio or cvs) you have to do genetic testing, in which they'll tell you the risk of miscarriage from the cvs is much much smaller than the national average, and they are in the process of publishing a paper with the updated risk numbers. Anyway, Stone and Edelman are great, and my CVS was fine. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]
