If your dc takes ERB in the fall, say October or November, and your list is top 10 or 15 schools, and ERB result that you get later is 80's or 70's unexpectedly, then you could really be SO? If you had the score in hand, you could have applied to schools with more realistic chance? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think the organization that gives dc the ERB sends the results to the school, so you can't get two tests mailed to you and send the best one. Is that what you're proposing? [ Reply | More ]

Also, a cute well behaved dc and low maintenance parents with $ can do top tier w/ 70/80's [ Reply | More ]

No, you can't take ERB twice in the same season. [ Reply | More ]

even with a score in the 90s nothing is guaranteed. Your psd will tell you to apply broadly [ Reply | More ]

You need to apply broadly regardless. 99x3 were shut out this year b/c they only applied to a few TT. Apply broadly and stay positive and don't let any school know that they are your safety. GL [ Reply | More ]

So, you apply to 7 from the top 15 list. But where else to apply if you want to apply to 5 more "safety" schools? Don't they know they're safety? Only safeties I know of are Dwight, BWL and Hewitt. [ Reply | More ]

Throw in a few K-8s. Some people have those schools as a FC - even some people with high scoring dc. They will not know that they are your safety unless you make it obvious. Before you go to the interview read up on their philosophy & ask questions and write a thank you card. [ Reply | More ]

we got our erbs late (results in late november), applied broadly to 15 varied schools--dc scored in 90s and was SO. [ Reply | More ]

This is why you don't do that. I have a March dd and had her tested in erb office in summer. Know someone with a Jan boy who waited 'til fall (around Thanksgiving). Score wasn't great and he was nearly shut out (would have been this past season, imo, but psd was able to pull a few strings the year before). Once I had my dc's score in hand, I chose to apply only to tt with one "safety". [ Reply | More ]

You were lucky then even with scores in hand many high scoring dc who applied like that were SO. My dc did not take the test until November - Bday is late May. We applied very broadly, TT, second, third & safety. Dc got into our FC. You never know. You have the dc take the test at the time that makes the most sense & should, in this day and age, apply broadly regardless. [ Reply | More ]

Don't think I was "lucky" as I don't think there are THAT many with dc's score (99x3--on the high side of that) who are also well socialized. [ Reply | More ]

i don't think that the erb's are the final say in admissions. part of the package. i would apply to schools you think would be a good fit for dc. why are you taking erb 2x? [ Reply | More ]

I think OP means getting the test results at a later time if you wait to test until late fall--not that you are getting the results of a second test. [ Reply | More ]

Your PSD and teachers should have a sense of how well DC will do - if you ask, they should be able to tell you candidly whether you should be aiming at TT or lower. That said, every family should be applying to a range of schools regardless of scores. We started out with 14 schools with the idea that we would drop some TTs if the scores came back low or drop some less-selective schools if the scores came back high. We stuck to that strategy and it worked out fine. [ Reply | More ]

I think having DC take the test at least 4 weeks before you need to complete applications is a great idea. No point wasting your time on the TTs if your DC's score is in the 80s despite what people on this baord say. It just doesn't happen unless someone has a huge connection or a very high SB score which is also submitted. DF wasted time running around to 12+ schools and when ERBs came back with huge scatter and low 80s score - she wished DC had taken the ERBs earlier. She could have better focused her search with the scores in hand. [ Reply | More ]
