Chicken salad (from left over chicken), grilled cheese, cheese tortellinis (the frozen kind boil in 5 minutes) make great finger food, edamame, rice only "sushi", sliced cucumbers, grape tomatoes, baby carrots, hard boiled egg, egg salad and crackers, applesauce, strawberries, blueberries, [ Reply | More ]

They're all on a par really. Westport has a larger downtown area. Darien has a real 'small town' feel. New Canaan is similar without the advantage of the beaches (great for kids in the summer). The commute is easier from Darien and Westport - New Canaan has, I believe, one express train to Grand Central in the a.m., all others change at Stamford. You can check all the schools info online. In and of itself, this wouldn't be enough to tank my marriage over. Presumably, though, there are a LOT of problems in a marriage in which one spouse is engaging in criminal activity and the other spouse has no clue. (Or even does have a clue.) [ Reply | More ]

I am a prosecutor (white collar crime) and have seen many marriages caught in the cross-hairs of (usually but not always) the DH's criminality. Most of the time, the wives turn a blind eye to the details of how DH is bringing home all that money. Birds of a feather flock together. I know my own DH's morality, and I believe the vast majority of couples intimately understand their partner's morality (or lack thereof). Sometimes it's convenient to pretend that they don't really know. But they do. [ Reply | More ]

^^^ Anyway, to answer the OP's question, I cannot even imagine finding myself in this situation because I know my DH would never do something like that. But if I did, I could stay married to him if he truly repented and accepted responsibility. If the DH the OP is describing has been tied up in trials for years, that's the clearest sign there is that he refuses to accept responsbility for his actions. He deserves every day in jail that he got. [ Reply | More ]

yes, one dh commutes 7 1/2 hrs a week (45 mins each way). I think there are pros raising a family in the suburbs, but I think that weekend story is silly. You might want to get out about five to eight weekends of the year, but if you live in the suburbs, you might want to get in to the city for the theater, special occassion dinners, museums, Christmastime, etc. [ Reply | More ]

You are absolutely right...I guess what prompted our decision is that our boys don't care for theater and museums. They consider a trip to the AMNH a torture session. They want to play baseball, soccer and swim and as they get older, the small fields scattered here and there in manhattan aren't cutting it anymore. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, this is happening to a friend that loves the city. Her son wants to play baseball in the apartment. Many people are unnecessarily dramatic about the suburbs on this board. A large part of it has to do with finding as good a fit as possible. [ Reply | More ]

In my world, since we are in a great public school, I would do the second home - but only if it was out of the country and someplace the children would get wonderful cultural and language experiences. My mother's family is still in Italy, I would love to have a second home there, I think the benefits of summers traveling and learning about the breadth of opportunities in the world would be great. That depends entirely on the child, the public option, and the private option. If the public option is Hunter or Anderson, pick the second home. If the public option is PS6 and the kid would be fine in a big class, then I'd pick the second home. If the public option is PS6 and the private option is Trevor/CGPS/Town, I'd pick the second home. If the public option is 158 and the private option is Spence or Collegiate, I'd pick the private school. You get the idea. [ Reply | More ]
