She is acting totally normal, but her face is all scraped up and a little swollen on one side with a huge goose egg on her forehead. I iced it for a few minutes after it happened, but that's all she would tolerate. Other than neosporin for the scrapes, anything else I should do?? It looks just awful. 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Same expect thing happened to my dd when she was 22 months. Nothing much you can do, just make sure she isn't acting unusually tired or throwing up. [ - ] Someone at the park today said Village Preschool Center and Barrow Street were "fancy daycares." Im sending my DD to VPC (and thought it looked like a great place on the tour). She was so vehement about it. Any VPC or Barrow parents on? Or people wh could speak to her comment? Her kids went to West Village Nursery School fwiw. TIA (Also, we just moved here so im not that familiar w/ the n-hood reps of the schools .....) 37 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

The West Village Nursery school is a coop school, so may be considerably less $$$ than the others 2, which is why she may have said they are "fancy". however I agree that calling a school in nyc "daycare" is considered a slam. Neither of those schoo would be considered "fancy" by most of the people I know, but both very good schools. Sounds like you met a real nut in the playground. [ Reply | More ]

WTF is wrong with daycares? Daycare for 4 yods actually does same things as prek's. They just have a longer day. That's all. They nap for 2 hours, eat lunch and snacks and have unstructured time, go out to the park. They still do same stuff preks do. [ Reply | More ]

Nothing wrong w/ daycare or public pre-K. The parents who spent $$$ to send dc to "preschool" for 8 hours per week need to find some way to make themselves feel better about it. [ Reply | More ]

^ The point being: Parents who send their dc to preschool and then turn around and denigrate other parents who send dc to daycare, like OP's acquaintance, are jerks trying to make themselves feel better about their own choice. [ Reply | More ]

"the parents who spend $$$ to send dc to 'preschool' for 8 hours per week need to find some way to make themselves feel better about it." sorry, but where did you say parents who slag on daycare parents? am i missing that part? because i only see pare who send dc to preschool. [ Reply | More ]

There's a reason these conversations are called "threads." Follow the thread. Read OP's post, then the OR's, then mine. THAT'S the context. Parents whose dc are in preschool and who feel the need to bash daycare. Get it? And there are a lot of them, Check out the "kennel" response. It's a classic. [ Reply | More ]

All NYC preschools are fancy daycares, including her dc's school. [ Reply | More ]

This is true. All NYC preschools must have a daycare license, so by definition they're all daycares. There's no license or certificate to officially mark a daycare as a preschool. And if you look at what goes on at preschool it's just a condensed versi of what happens at any quality full-day daycare program. [ Reply | More ]
