Partner took a job teaching a night class for all of June. My colleagues (I work in higher ed) are happy hour people in June (as the students are gone). I would like to go fairly often and get to know them (this is a new job), how many times can I bring my 11m/o to happy hour (family friendly job) without seeming freakish. I am willing to stretch the limits a bit. TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I think it is silly to get a babysitter when i could very easily bring him. He'll have dinner while we socialize. [ Reply | More ]

YES. For an informal happy hour at a local suburban bar or restaurant? Absolutely. It is only with a couple of people. [ Reply | More ]

Actually if it were an AppleBees or something like that it probably wouldn't be strange at all. [ Reply | More ]

They're independent places, but in the suburban town I live in. I am not talking about fancy manhattan bars. [ Reply | More ]

Doesn't seem strange unless it makes others feel awkward. Try it once at least. [ Reply | More ]

np: you'll be alienating ppl. the happy hours are not about your baby, they are about your coworkers and you. It's not like he'll be feeding himself. [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't take db. Your colleagues may think it's weird for you to take db out to the bar. I would...sorry. Get a babysitter. [ Reply | More ]

I think you can do it once and say your sitter canceled or whatever. But after that you are the freak who can't be separated from your kid for an evening. I would definatley talk about you behind your back. But then I am kind of a bitch like that. [ Reply | More ]

I think 11 mos is a terrible time b/c they can't self-feed and they like to get up and move around. You won't be able to carry on a meaningful conversation in between the inevitable screams, cries, running off, etc. It would be a major turn off for me, if I were your colleague. [ Reply | More ]
