[ - ] I just found out that my 18 mo ds tested positive for a peanut allergy. Other than looking for the word "peanut", anything else I should avoid when I see it on food or lotion labels? TIA. 19 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i hope that your ds does grow out of it. my neice has gotten worse and worse every year. you'll also have to avoid eating out at asian restaurants(they use peanut oil...although supposedly the oil is fine since the allergy is based on the peanut protein, you never can be too careful. also they have a lot of peanuts in the food). this is hard for my sister because we are chinese! totally sucks. She has found that a lot of chain restauarants are good for peanut allergy kids. You'll have to do the research, I can't think of it off the top of my head. I know that at 18 mos, you aren't thinking about eating out like this, but when DS is older, you'll have to be extra vigilant. good luck! [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. My DH is Korean, so I was thinking about how the Asian food thing will be tricky!!! My DH's nephew is allergic to milk, eggs, and peanuts, and my SIL said that it's hardest with Asian foods (and she speaks fluent Korean) b/c you don't know what's in them 1/2 the time. [ Reply | More ]

SIL is DH's brother's wife. I hadn't planned on giving db anything with nuts until he was 3, per ped's advice. DB has eczema, so he's at an increased risk of allergies anyway. I would say avoid nuts as long as you can -- is there really a pressing need to introduce them early? [ Reply | More ]

i'm probably not going to introduce nuts utnil DD is 3. I accidently gave her something with pecans once and she seemed fine. My neice also had eczema really bad as well and I read that there is a link with peanut allergy. DD doesn't have eczema so I am hping we are clear. [ Reply | More ]

Fusia in midtown was fantastic--they make little mountains out of the white rice and they were so nice!!! The post office says that there are several hundred that have not been picked up, and we already know that many certified letters were not picked up or lost. Logical conclusion is that there would also be some regular mail not picked up or lost, the senders are just unaware because their letters were sent without any tracking. [ Reply | More ]

Dated 5/21: RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED/CERTIFIED LETTERS PICKED UP Thanks to an industrious parent, it appears that all G&T Return Receipt Requested/Certified Letters, that were received at the post office by at least Friday, were scheduled to be picked up. This parent tracked down the manager of the post office receiving the G&T applications, who confirmed the letters had not been picked up despite the DOE assurances that they had. (In fact, only applications sent through regular mail, without any additional stipulations, were picked up previously.) The parent then put OSEPO in touch with the post office and plans were made to pick up the remaining applications [ Reply | More ]

thank you so much. this is helping me tremendously. i do have a perfectionist tendency and the hormones are making it hard for me to put it into realistic terms. you're so right. children do know truth. i will remember this during the hard times. [ Reply | More ]

We've done it at a bunch of private clubs (River, University, Metropolitan, and several others) - generally not in the bathrooms. [ Reply | More ]

Never at Princeton. Once at the Yale club, though, during a cocktail party. We've done it in private function rooms that weren't being used at the time in a few places, in the billiard room at Metropolitan Club, once in the sitting area by one of the tennis courts at River, on squash courts at a few different clubs, and, of course, in some closets. Really nice, I will tell DH. We've done it in empty private function rooms at Princeton and in the men's locker room at Princeton and in a storage closet at Harvard. [ Reply | More ]

Of all those, the billiard room was probably the one that felt the riskiest. We did start it up once at the University Club's billiard room very late night, and only just managed to disengage/readjust clothes before some people came in. [ Reply | More ]

Certainly not the Boo-ya attitude! Seriously, we clearly don't need much encouragement, so I don't think there was anything particular about the yale Club beyond the general inappropriateness of it. [ Reply | More ]
