ok, then please define "pain free" - imo, cutting out entire food groups is very painful. SImple things include switching to diet from regular sodas; avoid all juices; eat whole grains rather than refined starches; keep portion sizes strict - but this still isn't easy imo [ Reply | More ]

i've recently started being more careful and it's paying off. in small amounts but i see a difference so far. i just use substitutions instead of mindless eating. every time i'm about to grab something i stop to think...what is it about this that i want and what can i substitute that would do the same thing? it's pretty painless b/c i'm still snacking, but i'm making smarter bad choices, get it? Buy the book "You: On A Diet." Very informative about how your body processes and digests food. Teaches you WHY things like HFCS and other things are bad. Gives very specific ways and order in which to eat that help you feel full on less food without restricting you to only a few kinds of food. [ Reply | More ]

My 2yo ds had something similar: high fever and sore throat Sunday and Monday. I took him to ped who said it's likely a virus, and that "summer viruses" (as opposed to "winter viruses" that generate lots of mucus) often manifest like this and quite often, after the fever has gone down, end in a rash. So I wouldn't worry at all. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] So ds is friends with a child in the class whose mother speaks no english. I always feels like an idiot when I arrange playdates. I know just enough spanish to say "can X play with ds tomorrow." Then she responds with a slew of Spanish and I can't understand a word. Today, she got her ds on the phone to translate. I THINK we have something arranged for tomorrow. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

What is the real purpose of this post?? Why would you feel like an idiot? [ Reply | More ]

No real purpose. Just sort of bored. I feel like an idiot because I can only communicate one way - I talk and she listens, but when she talks, I can't understand. [ Reply | More ]

Ds had a friend from Japan. His mother did not speak e-mail well. We set up all playdates by e-mail. I think she had some sort of program that translated for her. [ Reply | More ]

I've done that, it's awkward, especially because I don't trust the kid to translate accurately. Try to get the hours straight for when the playdate will end and who will pick up/drop off... and make sure you have cell phone # just in case! GL! It's worth it if your kids are eager to hang out, even though it is awkward. [ Reply | More ]

^^ it's worth it because that's one of the great things about NYC, our kids can be friends with first gen kids from different backgrounds. In the old days, they'd just play stickball on the block, but these days, the parents have to find a way to make playdates happen! [ Reply | More ]

It's because when they first rolled out this site, a bunch of women complained when they defaulted watched posts to collapsed. I agree with you, I'd prefer they collapse. [ Reply | More ]
