is this me or what? we are looking for a pt sitter. two have made arrangements to meet, showed up late both times (no calls, like 20 min late). I told both of them not to bother coming for the interview. I explained that I needed someone prompt and being late for our first meeting is unacceptable. they both got mad, one said she was new to area, and I told her she needed to leave apt earlier then. one is a college student, one is a friend of my friend's nanny. Its not you, but you didn't need to continue the conversation. You should have said (when you finally got them on the phone or in person), I'm sorry. The position has been filled. And not chastized them [ Reply | More ]

^^I wouldn't hire them either, but it's a bit odd to call them while they are on their way and say don't bother now. [ Reply | More ]

i waited 20 min, no calls to explain why being late. If they wren't going to take the time to be on time for something, I don't want to waste my time (or theirs) if I wasn't going to hire them for being late. I called after 20 minutes (well the nanny's friend was 30 min late) [ Reply | More ]

I hope someone is understanding of YOU when you are 20 min late and don't bother to call / you get lost. [ Reply | More ]

np: I'm with OP. I would never be late for a job interview. I almost always get there early and hang around for a while to avoid being late b/c I got lost. [ Reply | More ]

This was pretty typical of my experience interviewing PT sitters. I hired the only one who showed up on time. [ Reply | More ]

If they came highly recommended and you caught them in transit, I would have interviewed them. I find getting around the city can be daunting at times, no matter how much time you allow. Stuff happens. [ Reply | More ]

i think you are being foolish to say not to come for the interview. especially the one that was personally recommended. [ Reply | More ]

if you live in nyc and one of them was truly new to the city, then yes - you are being a bit unreasonable. but good for her b/c you sound difficult to work for. [ Reply | More ]
