Anyone recommend a relatively pain-free way to start to clean up my eating? I have gained a LOT of weight in the past 5 years. I exercise but its my eating that needs imrpovement. WW is too difficult for me now. Thanks. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Really? I don't feel that way at all. Skinny people are not braver or tougher than fat people. [ Reply | More ]

ITA, I am thin and while I am mindful of eating I am not a tower of willpower by any means. [ Reply | More ]

braver or tougher?? the point is you're asking for easy, and it's not easy [ Reply | More ]

Not asking for easy. I asked for relatively pain free. As in -- I am not doing Master Cleanse but would like to eat healthier with an eye towards reducing calories. [ Reply | More ]

ok, then please define "pain free" - imo, cutting out entire food groups is very painful. SImple things include switching to diet from regular sodas; avoid all juices; eat whole grains rather than refined starches; keep portion sizes strict - but this still isn't easy imo [ Reply | More ]

Eat food (that is only things your great grandmother would recognize), mostly plants. Smaller portions. The concept of a book about our food chain and nutrition. [ Reply | More ]

I've been counting calories and it's working (when I stick to it!). Someone on UB suggested calorie-count.com and that's what I use (it's free). But I also have horrible days (like today!). It's a work in progress for me. GL. [ Reply | More ]

i've recently started being more careful and it's paying off. in small amounts but i see a difference so far. i just use substitutions instead of mindless eating. every time i'm about to grab something i stop to think...what is it about this that i want and what can i substitute that would do the same thing? it's pretty painless b/c i'm still snacking, but i'm making smarter bad choices, get it? Flame Away - After dh received high cholesterol results we went low fat and bought Alli. I painlessly lost 10 lbs and am now 139 at 5"9' We eat whole grain, low fat foods and don't count calories - we count fat grams. I'm never hungry and we both feel great. [ Reply | More ]

no - the whole digestive thing is speeded up bit but all these stories are either made up or people are taking Alli and eating cheeseburgers and fries. [ Reply | More ]

Buy the book "You: On A Diet." Very informative about how your body processes and digests food. Teaches you WHY things like HFCS and other things are bad. Gives very specific ways and order in which to eat that help you feel full on less food without restricting you to only a few kinds of food. [ Reply | More ]
