I have this new neighbor (who rents), who pushes my garbage can over daily (about 3 inches), so that I can't pull in or out of my garage w/out getting out of my car and moving it out of the way. ITA that she is not doing ds any favors by boasting about his achievements at such a tender age. The other kids will catch up and then ds will be in the midst of an identity crisis. Any kid can do this, it's all about the training. If you sing ABC (a lot) to your kid and quiz him about numbers, he'll do these tricks too. Kids mimic their parents. If your worried, then start quizing your kid. If your annoyed at your friend, don't be. Celebrate the ways that your kid is great with her! [ Reply | More ]

most kids in my son's class can say their abc and count - including him - at 2.5. Regardless not doing so should not be an issue, nor is being able to do something to brag about. I get the same with a few mothers I am friends with. My son is smart, but the schl he goes to in NYC is so frkn ultra comptitv that parents often can not stop talking about how their kid did this or that or the other - often something my son has not done. Colleague at work was saying that his wife really had to start bringing in money again after 3 mos maternity leave. The way he said it, I got the impression she wanted a few more months. I felt bad for her because of his attitude, as if she'd just been wasting funds or something. I don't know details of their finances, but I'm pretty sure he makes a lot more than I do. thanks. it just gets under my skin that so many of our friends - with a lot less $ than us - have situations where the dh wants the dw to be home. to me, this indicates more respect for what she does as a mother. my dh views everything in financial terms - i can work, therefore i should work. I left my twins with a nanny to go back to work FT when they were 4mo. They were very happy to be with their nanny, but they knew I was mommy and they were fine with it. 7 years later, they still know I'm mommy and are fine that I had a nanny for them. RELAX [ Reply | More ]

I promise you this is not true. My parents had live-in care for me and my brother until we were in college and I was never, never, never confused or more bonded to a nanny than to my parents. And yes, I have all the normal problems kids have with their parents - they're not perfect but your parents are your parents. Your kid will always love you best. [ Reply | More ]
