[ - ] I made banana bread with ds, and it came out yummy but very crumbly/falling apart. Is it possibly because I used self rising bleached flour (what I had) instead of regular unbleached flour (that the recipe called for)? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

just use the unbleached flour. Self rising has ingredients to make it rise. When that was added to whatever else the recipe calls for, it was too much and changed the texture. As long as it tasted good though, who cares? ;-) [ Reply | More ]

My nephews went to private high school on scholarship and got some really strange, elitist ideas about status ("I feel sorry for anyone who has to go to private school and get ahead in the world"). It wasn't about status for their parents, who both went to public school, but they certainly seem to create an entitled class. (My nephews are both great kids. I just have to talk them down sometimes.) [ Reply | More ]

I don't think that. I've had my child in private and public and I can say the private school offered a better more well rounded education. Also that the teachers were 100% more polished than public school teachers. No new yawk accents and shoddy grammar. [ Reply | More ]

Well I didn't what to say smarter, because I don't believe that. I also didn't want to say better educated because just because private school teacher went to say Andover and Brown, and public school teacher went to local public and state u. What stood out was strong backgrounds in art, music, literature and the ability to communicate those ideas to kids. The reason we moved to a public was because our child needed extra help (OT and Speech) and at the public inclusion school we attend those teachers may not be incorporating greek mythology into every project but they know their stuff on how to work with a child who needs more help. Certain private schools can offer a "leg up" because they have relationships with other schools. My dh has a niece who had to transfer from a private in Boston to her local public. She said that the kids at the public were less achievement interested (good grades, trying to get into certain colleges, etc.) and that it made her less competitive. [ Reply | More ]

that doesn't really make sense. a dc who decides to go private might not even have been interested in 116, but a dc with a sib at 116 will obviously want 116. and any sib with a 97 or better score will get in over a 97-scoring non-sib. [ Reply | More ]

i mean that of 186 kids in D2 who score 97 or better, some are not going to send the form back b/c will be going to private. so maybe that takes the group down to 140 or 150 and i doubt there are that many sibs [ Reply | More ]
