it's annoying. she is impressed with her son, but it is likely that by 6th or 7th grade all the kids will have caught up to him and he won't be ahead anymore. so just wait [ Reply | More ]

just roll your eyes and know that your kid is most likely just as smart as her kid but your kid isn't a show off.... [ Reply | More ]

1) that really isn't all that advanced 2) she is setting herself and the ds up for a world of hurt by thinking that he is advanced [ Reply | More ]

ITA that she is not doing ds any favors by boasting about his achievements at such a tender age. The other kids will catch up and then ds will be in the midst of an identity crisis. I've seen it happen. Better to have a sweet, normal kid than a circus freak. Deal with it how you deal with any kind of braggert. It's not about you. [ Reply | More ]

Any kid can do this, it's all about the training. If you sing ABC (a lot) to your kid and quiz him about numbers, he'll do these tricks too. Kids mimic their parents. If your worried, then start quizing your kid. If your annoyed at your friend, don't be. Celebrate the ways that your kid is great with her! [ Reply | More ]

most kids in my son's class can say their abc and count - including him - at 2.5. Regardless not doing so should not be an issue, nor is being able to do something to brag about. I get the same with a few mothers I am friends with. My son is smart, but the schl he goes to in NYC is so frkn ultra comptitv that parents often can not stop talking about how their kid did this or that or the other - often something my son has not done. So I just roll my eyes let it go in one ear and out the other. [ Reply | More ]

I was in the same situation. Very annoying. I tried to make outdoor playdates so we could focus on chasing the children (less conversation). [ Reply | More ]
