I think the best thing is to buy two: one Bugaboo for everyday use (we walk a lot) and one for the subway (small, light, but not necessarily for a long time). A NYer should invest in a stroller like the rest of the country invests in a car:) [ Reply | More ]

I think it's the peds. philosophy to start at that point. It dawned on me when I spoke w/ my girlfriend and she advised against it to avoid allergy issues. I looked at other babycare books & they all recommend to hold off until about 6 mths. I was just curious to know what others have done since she's my first. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I need some advise, 13mo db is only interested in playing with electrical outlets, the keyboard, mouse, remotes phones ect, he knows he's not supposed to touch them because whenhe goes near them he starts whining if i'm watching, i say NO but he waves his hand as if to say leave me alone, i repeat and take him away, he goes right back. My ds is the same. Nothing has worked, so sorry, no advice. He actually loves pulling off the outlet covers and has nearly mastered the cabinet locks. I just keep dangerous stuff on the highest shelves of cabinets now and am hoping he'll lose interest eventually. He turns the tv on and off when we're watching. Same with a/c. good. I'm sure they are very good there. Just pray for the best. WHatever happens, your friend will need lot's of support in the coming weeks. If they are in the NICU it will be for a pretty long time. See what you can do to help with meals, transportation caring for any other kids she has etc. Bring her some good books too. [ - ] with all this talk about 99's etc--a little perspective: my daughter was adopted when she was 9 months old. She had rickets and was very malnourished. at 1 year she weighed 12 pounds. She did not walk until 22 months, and she was in every kind of EI possible--OT, PT, ST. In those early years she was so delayed--we were not sure that she would ever catch up. All I wanted was for her to be happy-- every day was such a struggle for her. Now she is doing great. She is solidly in the middle in all her classes (4th grade), has lots of friends. It is nice to take a perspective break and to say a little prayer of thanks that ours are healthy and happy, but it only lasts a moment before we magnify our petty problems into "life-shattering" issues again. We have 2.4yo twins and are expecting 3rd in 3 months. In a perfect world we'd wait, but we are older, had lots of trouble getting pregnant with the twins and then lucky on the first try with the 3rd. Are we exhausted? Yes! Will life be crazy for awhile?
