We had considered a Hoboken move until we visited. My dh and ds were the only non-whites. We felt totally strange. Brooklyn is waaaaay better if you can not afford to live in the city. Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene, Clinton, Carroll Gardens and even part of Brooklyn Heights is better. You might try the cheap middle class projects (Covent Garden on Jay Street/Adams street) for cheap family size housing in BH. [ Reply | More ]

i live downtown in Van Vorst Park area. very different from Journal Square (tho' my dd goes to preschool up there). Funny, every time I mop up the spill from my two monkeys after bath time I wish I had those doors again... Just fold a towel in half and drape it over side and you can sit on edge of tub. The upstairs apt in our two family had one when we moved in. I took it out. It is really easy to do for those of you who hate yours. The only issue is the holes left in the wall and cleaning up the caulk. (A razor blade, a green scrubbie and some acetone. Done.) [ Reply | More ]

This is for the tenants. The old one was trashed. I think the bathroom looks better without it BUT I have a water stain in my BR ceiling because tenants' sister is too simple minded to operate a shower curtain.... I could argue either way. The newer generaion ones are much nicer though. And you can get them now without the track on the bottom! [ Reply | More ]

first OR: i don't know what the right answer for you is, but i can tell you about my own experience. dd goes to a school that is fairly local but it happens to be that most of the kids from our neighborhood are in the other class. right now it doesn't matter so much b/c she is still in preschool and she plays with kids on her block. so if it's preschool, i'd say you should try it. also, it's most likely that a good number of students are also coming from other neighborhoods.
