[ - ] SO miserable these past few days. Am 7 1/2 weeks pregnant. Worried about that, but also husband and I haven't spoken in 3 days. Had a fight and I won't kiss ass and apologize. I am so sick of him. I currently am hating him a lot!!!! I know I am hormonal but we haven't been getting along for a while. I feel like such a moron for getting pregnant. This will be our 2nd. I'm envisioning my life alone with the kids. 14 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I tried to make up actually. And then he got angry at me for something else. I have a completely type A,high anxiety lunatic husband who is mad at me every other minute for something else. He is not a walk in the park to deal with. I am constantly apologizing. He patronizes me and makes me feel like a pea. Perhaps I didn't paint the right picture. I'd say the issues btwn you are probably not imagined- they are most likely very real-- but your reaction to them right now is largely hormonal. that fatalistic perspective and unwillingness to let it go are distinctly hormonal. Don't do more damage than necessary by holding a grudge - just hang in there for a month or two until you even out a little bit and also consider some therapy to get you both through this. lots of people have periods of unhappiness in a marriage, but it doesn't spell sure doom. gl. It's a big change but you just have to prioritize if, like us, you can't afford to stay in the city. If we'd stayed we'd have to have a smaller family and deal with the school battle. We moved, and we have 3 kids, a dog, and great schools that I don't have to fight to get into. I can grocery shop with ease (no crammed aisles and lugging heavy groceries home) and my kids, who have very different ways of learning (one has learning disabilities) each get what they need without a hassle. And we visit NYC at least twice a month, maintained our museum memberships, go to the parks, and get to enjoy the fun aspects of the city. We miss it most in the winter, when options here are fewer. ITA! It's diff't from the City, but not by any stretch inferior. There are so many things to do, easy to meet other moms and a real sense of community. I find the moms here to be so nice and helpful and not at all like the UB moms. I loved the City, but I don't miss it. What I would miss about the City were my single/early married years, but I don't miss the kids in the City at all. [ Reply | More ]

I live on the UES, but think this is most people. My friend in a nice suburb in Westchester was making fun of her new neighbor who was freaking out "What will I do here, we're from the CITY." My friend grew up here and lived here her whole life before going to the suburbs, and she said 99.9% of the town lived in the city too. There are pros to the suburbs when you have kids. we moved to the burbs (not nyc) 8 yrs ago and i still have days when i love it and days when i hate it. it's about weighing your options and when you have your down days remindiing yourself WHY you did it. we chose to move here b/c we got a bigger house for less money and the public schools are great. we'd be shelling out $45,000+ for private schools for our 3 kids each yr if we'd stayed in the city. when i get annoyed with my neighbors, i pack of the kids, drive downtown and we all eat somewhere that i wouldn't be able to afford if we'd stayed urban. this is the problem with Dr. S. He is consistently like this. This is why I wish SO many people would stop posting that he is the be all end all. OP - if he has not already seen your child, you may want to try someone else who is more responsive and less busy. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] I have a lot of weight to lose (approx. 80+ lbs) due to 3 pregnancies in little over 2 years, poor eating, etc. Used to be in good shape due to weight-lifting with a small amount of cardio. I now have 3 kids under 3, so finding time can be tough. A Pilates studio opened around the corner, my mom offered to get me some lessons for my b'day. I'm interested b/c it seems like it's like lifting weights (which historically worked vy well for me) in that it's strength training - but does Pilates help you lose weight? Am also addressing calorie intake with a program. Thx. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I think it's like yoga - if it is a strenuous enough session it can. E.g., vinyasa yoga helped me lose weight, but hatha did not. I fear Pilates is too "sedentary," but I"m watching post.... [ Reply | More ]

You need to do cardio - and lots of it. Pilates is great for toning, but with that amount to lose you really need to get active. Also be strict with what goes in your mouth - no point working out if all you eat is cake! I also have 3 under 3 - and 25 lbs to lose. I know if I don't start now I'll be fat forever. Good luck! this is exactly my story. had three under three. gained a lot of weight with each pregnancy. i think a lot of it depends on how motivated you are to do something about it. i've been watching what i eat but now is the first time that i'm really ready to start exercising. (dc#3 is now 2yo) [ Reply | More ]

I think exercise is less important at this point then dieting. Take pilates to get used to your body feeling good again but diet for weight loss. [ Reply | More ]

I was in the same position you are in now 7 months ago. Since then I have lost 60lbs on Weight Watchers. It was the easiest weight I ever lost. I am a better mom because of it. WW and the gym (2-4 xweek for an hour)was how I lost. I never did the same thing at the gym in the same week. Good mix of Cardio, Weigh Training, and Classes. GOOD LUCK! Stop thinking about losing it and do it. You CAN! [ Reply | More ]

If you've had luck with weight training before I would go that route. I don't think pilates has quite the same effect on the body. I recommend the biggest loser fitness book - contains several do at home workouts with minimal equipment. [ Reply | More ]
