My daughter's ped. recommended to start solids now. She's 4 weeks & weighs a solid 15 pounds. She has between 6 to 7 oz of formula about 4 hrs. I hear conflicting information about starting solids prior to 6 mths. What age did you start with solids? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

phew! lots of peds say 4 months. if she's interested in your food, go for it. If not, I might wait a bit until she seems curious. But 4 mos isn't uncommon. [ Reply | More

I think it's the peds. philosophy to start at that point. It dawned on me when I spoke w/ my girlfriend and she advised against it to avoid allergy issues. I looked at other babycare books & they all recommend to hold off until about 6 mths. I was just curious to know what others have done since she's my first. [ Reply | More

np: we started our first on solids at 4.5 mos and in retrspect, it was dumb. he hardly ate anythigng, stil had soem tongue thrist, adn made a huge mess. with #2 we waited to 6 mos. [ Reply | More

my ds was also big at 4 mos and ped recommended solids as well--i thought that was way too early. we started at 5.5 mos and he wasn't really interested til 7 mos anyway. if you are bf-ing, just wait til 6, i think. nothing to gain by going to solids before 6 mos. [ Reply | More
