my friend's water just broke. she's only six months along. she had a kidney infection and then started to have contractions. the baby is less than 3 pounds. is she going to be a viable baby? is there a chance? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

yikes. I think the earliest a baby can survive is right around 23 weeks? ish? Can't remember. So - I guess there is a chance. I hope she is in a place with a great NICU. [ Reply | More

good. I'm sure they are very good there. Just pray for the best. WHatever happens, your friend will need lot's of support in the coming weeks. If they are in the NICU it will be for a pretty long time. See what you can do to help with meals, transportation caring for any other kids she has etc. Bring her some good books too. they are going to admit her and try to stop the contractions. they will try to delay birth as long as possible. [ Reply | More

that's actually a pretty good size for 6 months. did her water break, or is it just leaking? they may be able to stop the contractions. our friends has a baby at 26 weeks and, while it was a tough road for a while, he is now a beautiful, healthy 3 yo boy. [ Reply | More
