[ - ] My 9 mo. was diagnosed with an egg allergy today. The allergist stressed the severity of egg allergies (as opposed to, say, milk or soy) - prescribed an Epi-Pen - etc. But for some reason, I feel like everything is going to be okay. I feel like this is very manageable, and we can handle this. Am I in denial? 14 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Sorry to say it but you're kind of in denial. Eggs are in most baked goods. You can work around it by cooking yourself, buying vegan products, etc., but it's a PITA. [ Reply | More ]

OP No, I understand that it's a PITA, but it just seems to me to be that - a PITA. Not a crisis. So I'm wondering about that reaction, yk? [ Reply | More ]

It'll be a crisis when your daughter can't have the cupcakes all her classmates are having or when she can't eat the pancakes her grandfather made. At least this has been our experience. [ Reply | More ]

OP How old is your dc? Also, have you gotten any good vegan cookbooks? A great vegan bakery opened up very close to our house, which seems like a good way to go when she's older. Is your dc outgrowing it? [ Reply | More ]

My DS's allergy is actually wheat. He hasn't grown out of it at age 7, but his reactions aren't as bad as they used to be. If he hasn't had any wheat for a few weeks, he can have a small cupcake (with a benadryl chaser) and not get too sick. [ Reply | More ]

OP Thanks - the allergist told us that 7-10 is now considered the age when most kids outgrow their allergies, as opposed to "by 5" (which is what they used to think). [ Reply | More ]

Just because egg allergies can be severe doesn't mean that your baby will have severe reactions - sounds like the allergist was just playing on the safe side, which seems smart. [ Reply | More ]

I didn't try any again until I was around 7. My mom took me to a new allergist, who repeated the scratch tests. No reaction this time (I had my throat close up and hives when I was given at 1 year old). I'm curious why your baby was tested so early - eggs are supposed to wait until 1yo. [ Reply | More ]

This needs clarification: Anderson is officially one year accelerated in Math. In other subjects they follow the NY State Education Curriculum Framework. HOWEVER: the way that curriculum is taught and the reading level of the materials used is often SEVERAL levels above what would be considered grade level. This goes for: English, Science Social Studies. So again: topics are on grade level...materials and expectations are way above. [ Reply | More ]

I do. That's why when our last realtor couldn't sell our house after 4 months (despite pocketing a lot of $$ for us buying our new house), we sold it ourselves. I'd never use a realtor again. [ Reply | More ]

np: My sister and her friends are realtors and I had to listen to them all complain about how people think they do no work last weekend... ahhh, you all work less than 20 hrs a week and writing a contract takes a few hours, max. [ Reply | More ]

if you work p/t you earn p/t salaries in RE just like every other business - probably 20-40k. a year of straight commission, no benefits, time off, etc. Very comparable to any other middle of the road job. [ Reply | More ]

Please try another agent! Like shrinks, Drs., accountants, etc. sometimes you get a few duds in a row and need to keep trying. Also, I am a Broker and try to be respectful of my clients' time and not too pushy. So I might err on the side of being passive with the idea that they receive updates from me nightly and will let me know what is appealing. Of course if I feel strongly about a property I will always reach out. I am just presenting the other side because so often we are deemed aggresive and it can be a difficult balancing act. No question however that you are not being served. Please try for a better fit. [ Reply | More ]

Hijack: Do you ever help clients (who have already bought through you) with planning of renovations of that house? We would really like our broker's advice whether we are making smart decisions on new kitchens and some extensive landscaping, want to make sure we will get most of the money out of it if we sell. This is one of my favorite parts of the job. I work as part of a team with a prof. decorator/home stager so while I have my opinions on cost benefit of certain renovations and I know what I like and have seen = the decorator does the real plans, swatches, etc. for the new house. And she is very very good. [ Reply | More ]
