[ - ] Two questions here. 1. If you are divorced/separated, do you feel like it has irrevocably affected your kids? 2. If my husband's take home pay is about 5x his income (ie mostly bonus-based) would child support be calculated based on salary or take home pay? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

1. my parents are divorced (since I was 7) and it irrevocably affected me, but not really in a bad way, and in retrospect I wouldn't have it any other way. 2. It depends, I suspect. My dh is a law partner, and when he got divorced, his child support and alimony was definitely based on his potential earnings, not on his minimum draw (NY). [ Reply | More ]

just keep trying other foods. over and over again. my ped told me the literature is very clear in that you have to try foods at least 15 times before you can really say they don't like the food. and bring it up with your ped if you're really concerned. keep a food log for a week or so and keep trying new foods and see what happens... In my gut, I think he ds has some sensory issues and we should have him evaluated (and the appointment's already been made), but, of course I want DH and I to be on the same page. Any one else have a similar situation? Dh agrees that it's our job to make sure that we are helping ds with any issues he might have that prevent him from thriving, but he has all this hostility toward doctors and I wish he didn't... 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

NP: You know that just because you go to a place like Brearley you aren't automatically entered into a top college, right? You have to compete with all the kids from all the other schools. Harvard doesn't take a whole class from one school. In that regard, sometimes you are better off going to a no name high school and being the superstar there [ Reply | More ]

You misunderstand me. I'm not saying the kids who went to CM or Ball State from Brearley are mediocre, I'm saying they had to compete amongst stars to get places. This was a tough year for college admissions. If some of those kids had been at less competitive schools, they might be going to "better" colleges. I know nothing about Ball State, but Carnegie Mellon is not a bad place [ Reply | More ]

You have to be kidding. It matters what you learn there, not where you go to college. BTW, both DH and I went to crappy state colleges. Yet he managed to become president of the company he works for, making millions. At some point your skills and abilities matter more than where you went to school. He's got a bunch of Hardvard and Princeton people working for him, and people from almost every college so desired by UB. It's not all about that. [ Reply | More ]

nnp. If your ultimate goal is for dc to get into Harvard, maybe. But if your main concern is the 13 years of education dc receives between K and 12th grade, dc is better off at Brearley or another top school than at a no-name. [ Reply | More ]

well that's not what I was talking about. my boss's kids, all were C students in public, he sent them to private to put them in an environment where just getting by with a C was not acceptable. Now 2 are grown, 1 still in college. I wouldnt say the 2 older ones are super successful, but probably better than they would have been in public. My point is, its not just the super bright who go to private. [ Reply | More ]
