NP - the person I spoke to at DOE, when I was concerned that my return receipt coupon hadn't been returned to me (3 weeks after mailing my letter), told me they would be calling anyone whose child qualified (90+) and didn't return a preference form to confirm that they had purposely not returned it - not that it was lost in the mail. so i think your theory (that they called the woman in harlem b/c they were looking for diversity) is off-base. Although when she told me that I had to counter with "But our phone number was incorrect on the form and no one from your office responded when I called, as instructed on the form, to correct it. I think that they did that on everyone's form but that they have our original testing request forms. I have a copy of that saved and my telephone number is printed very clearly on that. [ Reply | More

Well we submitted our form (actually two because we sent the first one certified RRR and the DOE person we spoke to suggested we send another via regular mail) so I am not expecting a call unless it is to question why they got two forms--so I will likely never know if they got my number right! If you want them to call you and confirm receipt I suggest two ways (both worked for friends): 1) call 311 and lodge a complaint or 2) fire off an e-mail threatening legal action. [ Reply | More

Wow-those are both pretty extreme! We did get back our signed return receipt so I am feeling pretty confident that they got it. I would be very nervous about any threats right now given that they have not announced my placement yet--I can definitely see my son dropping to the lowest lottery position in his score band if I am a PIA [ Reply | More

One office collects the forms (and they hired "consultants" to go to the post office!, they outsourced the data entry to other "consultants" and another office does the placement. No way they would be coordinated enough to blackball anyone. :) Good luck btw. [ Reply | More
