not sure I'd put it that way. part of it, though, was that I always felt like an outsider in NJ, even after I'd lived there (two different counties) for 9 years, b/c there are so many people from NJ who just stay there -- grow up there and spend their entire adulthood there. I had trouble relating. [ Reply | More ]

the commute thing isn't necessarily true. it depends on whre you work. my dh works on 36th and broadway. also NJ has the ferry, buses...CT doesn't have that. whenever the trains are down, my friends are stranded and have to take carservices in CT or Westchester [ Reply | More ]

NJ Transit is terrible when it rains, I have been stuck to many times between train stations and really can't imagine living there for good and having to deal with that disgusting commute. Yes you finally get to the terribly crowded Penn Station but you are so stressed out by then and even more stressed out by the congested station. Nothing beats Metro North and Grand Central Station. LIRR is not bad either, but its a shame it gets into Penn as well. [ Reply | More ]

People were very nice in walking around us, etc. Out of the corner of my eye I see some man walk directly up to the step behind dd (we were walking down)and turned to let him know he could go around. He then reaches to pick her up under the arms! WTH?!! I said "please don't do that" and he said "oh, sorry," and walked down and around us. Come on. The things you are complaining about aren't specific to Hillary. It's how GWB got elected too. [ Reply | More ]

Well...I'm sad she lost, but she lost for a reason. For all her experience, she really fumbled when she shouldn't have (for example, blowing her shot at VP with that ridiculousness on Tuesday). I'm disappointed she wasn't a stronger candidate. [ Reply | More ]

I suspect she blew her shot at VP when she went negative a couple of months ago, unfortunately. [ Reply | More ]

Actually, I think she was the strongest candidate, but unfortunately several fumbles were made by her campaign, for which is she is partly, but only partly, responsible. [ Reply | More ]

np: This bothers me. She is completely responsible for what her campaign does. As a woman, I hate the idea that somehow a woman isn't in control of her people, that the buck doesn't stop with her. I'd rather think she made bad choices than wasn't doing exactly what she wanted to get elected. I expect that from her and from Obama. [ Reply | More ]

It may bother you, but that's the reality for all the candidates. They have to rely, to some extent, on what their advisors (and pollsters) tell them. They cannot do everything themselves. Yes, she is responsible for who it is that advises her, but once you've made that decision, there's only so much you can do. [ Reply | More ]

I disagree. You shape the policies and the approach. She forgot to shape the approach. [ Reply | More ]

And if she became President, I'm sure there would be "several fumbles made by her Cabinet, for which she was partly, but only partly, responsible." [ Reply | More ]

undoubtedly. For any candidate. But it's a lot easier to replace a cabinet member or two or more during the course of a 4 year administration than in the heat of running for office. [ Reply | More ]

Seriously, black guys get everything handed to them. Look at all the black presidents. And you know who's an even surer thing? A black guy with an Arabic name! Throw in a history of having used coke, and you might as well hand him the keys to the White House--you don't need any ability to overcome built-in advantages like that. And with Hillary's huge donors, establishment political connections and massive name recognition, she was doomed from the start. [ Reply | More ]

I REALLY do not think that Obama won because he is "cool". I think that a LOT of people just truly do not like Hillary at all...whether she is a woman or a man. They just can not stand the Clintons. Also...I really think that she campaigned very, very badly. [ Reply | More ]

It truly is not because she is a woman or because Barack is cool. Hillary has got quite a few flaws. In addition to that she did some pretty unwise things during this race. To say that she lost because Barack is cool or because she is a woman of power is being to simpleminded and inaccurate. She is not liked by enough people. She also made herself even more unlikable throughout this campaign. I know of 3 people who started out strongly in her corner. By the end of April, they could not take her anymore and switched to Obama. [ Reply | More ]
