Why do most UBers seem to prefer Westchester (Larchmont, Mamaroneck) to Jersey (Millburn area)? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

The only people who prefer Jersey are from Jersey. [ Reply | More ]

I've lived in both places and I much prefer Westchester, just a different vibe (though there are certainly parts of NJ that are lovely). Also, the commute is generally better from Westchester. [ Reply | More ]

OP would you say the vibe was less pretentious, less in-your-face rich? that's what I get [ Reply | More ]

It depends on the town. I don't know Millburn, but my friends live in Short Hills and it is so ticky tacky--too many awful mcmansions. [ Reply | More ]

not sure I'd put it that way. part of it, though, was that I always felt like an outsider in NJ, even after I'd lived there (two different counties) for 9 years, b/c there are so many people from NJ who just stay there -- grow up there and spend their entire adulthood there. I had trouble relating. [ Reply | More ]

We moved to the area not knowing anything about the towns here. We looked in Westchester and Jersey, but my husband was used to a 20 minute commute and couldn't stand the idea of commuting from Jersy [ Reply | More ]

the commute thing isn't necessarily true. it depends on whre you work. my dh works on 36th and broadway. also NJ has the ferry, buses...CT doesn't have that. whenever the trains are down, my friends are stranded and have to take carservices in CT or Westchester [ Reply | More ]

NJ Transit is terrible when it rains, I have been stuck to many times between train stations and really can't imagine living there for good and having to deal with that disgusting commute. Yes you finally get to the terribly crowded Penn Station but you are so stressed out by then and even more stressed out by the congested station. Nothing beats Metro North and Grand Central Station. LIRR is not bad either, but its a shame it gets into Penn as well. [ Reply | More ]

Moved from Jersey to Mamaroneck and love it here, I couldn't wait to get out of Jersey terrible commute and mindset. It is also nice to be by the water, be in a nice relaxed, diverse and progressive family friendly community. [ Reply | More ]

I researched both places and ended up in Long Island. [ Reply | More ]

Long Island sucks, if anything ever happened e.g. the predicted and overdue hurricane it will be difficult to get out of there with all that traffic. Also not diverse enough in general for me, too segregated. [ Reply | More ]
