Did Hunter, G+T, and 3 privates this past year (for PK), and can't bear the thought that I have to do it all over again, and on a much bigger scale, come September. I did not feel like it went fast at all, but I think you can prepare and ease some of the pain. I waited until after Labor Day to start thinking about essays and applications and then felt it was a real chore. I couldn't really re-use essays as a few were school specific. But, see if DC can't take ERBs now or mid September, and then, where you can, schedule interviews late in the process (after schools have ERB scores). I felt like schools which had DC's ERB scores (which were very good) before child and parent interview, took DC's application more seriously. Good luck! [ Reply | More ]

I'm going to by a lot, but the cheapest price for one pic is $20...so I'm not buying all 30. I just wish i could have gotten 3x5s of each pic just to remember them. She doesn't offer a book? My photographer sold me a book with 20 images for $65. That way I could have a keepsake of my favorite in one place without spending a fortune on individual prints. If I'd wanted additional images in the book it was $2 per page. (which if you think about it is like a $2 print) I would never try to use someone's copyrighted material, or print from it. Let me see if I can explain this.... you paid for a session and you get the prints you paid for. You don't get to have the prints you didn't pay for because you think they are too expensive. I assume you knew the pricing before you had the images taken. I would love to have say....a CL600 Mercedes (they are a little pricey)...I don't get to just take it because "I am not paying that" or "They wish they made more money selling these cars than they need to"...I just have to pick something I can afford, or shop somewhere else. See how that works? [ Reply | More ]

Try negotiating a custom print order; you'd be letting the photographer know there may be a market for alternative print format choices. If you're not willing to pay for prints, you'll have to live w/the COPYRIGHT label. I think you should stick to JCPenny or Olan Mills. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] we recently went on a little weekend trip with family. my 28 month old nephew's behavior seemed pretty bad to me...or the fact that his parents discipline him by talking softly to him about how things aren't allowed, and then giving him extra attention. The kid was throwing rocks in areas where there were other kids. He would also fun (fast) away from his parents. Also, anytime he saw a snack of food around, he'd pick up the container and empty it on the ground. I was suprised because I think that he's old enough to know or at least learn that these behaviors aren't OK...but i don't remember what its like to have 2 year old. [ - ] Now that I'm pregnant I find myself sooo horny, and wanting to have sex with a woman. Not my dh! (I've never been with a woman before). I have tried just watching porn and such when he is away, but this is all I can think about hte last few weeks. Has anyone had a similar experience? What did you do? 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

No inside info really. I did call the DOE last week regarding another matter and the person I spoke to mentioned they were still dealing with Pre-K and then G&T was there next priority. Didn't make me think the letters were coming "any minute". I hope I'm wrong. I'd love for this to be over with already... [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Thoughts on kids playing with water balloons at playgrounds? I was at Hudson River Playground (the one at 12th St and the river) this weekend and saw kids filling up and dropping water ballons. Little pieces of latex were all over the place. Saw one awesome mom make a kid (not even her own) remove a piece of latex from her mouth. I started picking up the stray pieces of latex and throwing them in the trash. I was tempted to say something to the grownups of some of the kids who were playing with the water balloons (as in, if your kids are going to play with these, could you please make sure all the pieces are thrown away?), but I was worried about overstepping my boundaries and causing a scene. I was freaked out because the playground was so crowded and many kids could have put a piece of latex in their mouths without their grownups noticing. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Look, kids play with water balloons in the summer. I do try to pick up pieces that fall on the ground, but you can't stop kids from playing with them. Get used to it [ Reply | More ]

i am basically a non-confrontational person, however, when i see something detrimental to my children (or any child for that matter), i somehow find my voice. at john jay playground the toddler play area is gated. i kept watching the idiot parents walk out the gates and not shut them behind them. any child could have run right out. i ended up shouting at the inconsiderate parents to shut the gates. I make my kids pick up the pieces if they ever do a few water balloons at the park (or at our weekend house, for that matter). [ Reply | More ]

OP is right. The balloons are a hazard to children who put the pieces in their mouths, but it is not a battle you can win. There are way too many children playing with water balloons, and there is no way you can pick up all those tiny pieces. You just have to watch your baby like a hawk. [ Reply | More ]

I agree. We live on the UES and for some reason, the playground at Rupart Park is always full of kids playing with water ballons, so we just don't go to the particular playground. [ Reply | More ]

Not a problem for me. I watch my dc at the park. There are many things that can be found that dc can pick up and choke on. [ Reply | More ]
