I want to add that you can't foster the self-loathing thing; you need to develop a more loving attitude towards yourself. 20 lbs overweight is not what defines you; that's dangerously low on the scale of what's really critical to your happiness and success. As for the husband-let him be angry at himself-he sounds like a self involved prat. Maybe he should offer to train together; if he's such a fittie he should understand how levels of suffering towards fitness are variable and offer support, not criticism. He sounds more like a control freak than an endorphin junkie. Maybe you should lose more than 20lbs; What does he weigh? [ Reply | More ]

my child's private school has no air conditioning and they are holding classes (but it's a Hill school so I think they will spend a lot of time in the shade outside and their classroom has a cross breeze which you probably don't get in too many manhattan classrooms) [ Reply | More ]

putting a/c in a very old bldg is extremely expensive and it's something they would only use for maybe 2 weeks a year and many years not at all (school ends tomorrow and it's very rare to have this kind of heat this early). The library has a/c to protect the books. But honestly, it's fine. [ Reply | More ]

I just got AC after 6 years without AC. Dress light, hydrate. The AM will be fine. It is the afternoon that will be tough. [ Reply | More ]

our public has a/c in the classroom, but sometimes when it's really hot out they do indoor recess (which seems stupid to me). I'll send DS in shorts and sandals with lots of bottled water (actually, brita filtered tap water in re-used spring water bottles). [ Reply | More ]

Stupid UB won't let me respond in the right place. To the poster who asked: "stay home because there is no airconditioning? what did people do back then when there was no such thing?" What's the point of this question? It's going to hit almost 100 degrees and the OR is 8 months pregnant. [ Reply | More ]

On a day like this, any 8-months pregnant woman who had the option would have stayed home and taken it easy. IF she'd even been working in an office in the first place; a lot of women were pressured to quit their jobs when they got married, and even more so once they got pregnant. Which is why the question struck me as silly. If you want to refer back to what people "used to do," then a MC pregnant woman wouldn't even be working outside the home. [ Reply | More ]

TX mom here - you NYers would D-I-E down here! The heat sucks doesn't it??? Our schools are all A/C, but try going back to school in Aug when it is 105 outside and the a/c in the school bldg is at 68. You go from sweating to freezing in minutes. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] What do you think is the fastest we could find, buy and close on a house? Want to move this summer now to the 'burbs and get DC enrolled in kindergarten by September. There seems to be a lot on the market but DH wants to wait until his job search is underway so he won't have to commute... how long can we wait to find something? 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

We closed in 30 days. It was really stressful to get the inspection and then the appraisal in so little time. [ Reply | More ]

We found a house right away, offer in a week, accepted, then closed in 30 days. Was not stressful. Can't imagine why you'd need 60 days? [ Reply | More ]
