I am the WORST mother ever. I have a little bit of an, er, eating problem in that I'm an emotional eater, binge eater... hide this from DH for the most part. The other day I ate DC's ice-cream from the freezer, thinking he wouldn't remember it was there. Tonight he asked for it, screamed when DH couldn't find it and I had to fess up. DC said "mommy, why did you eat my ice-cream?" and DH just looked disgusted with me (I have 20 lbs. to lose). I feel so awful and am so mad at myself. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

the God aspect turns me off. Some days are better than others. When I'm unhappy, I eat. Unfortunately these days I'm unhappy. [ Reply | More ]

Don't beat yourself up too much. I would feel bad too. I have done similar things, but thankfully have not been caught by dc. [ Reply | More ]

I'm frankly disgusted with your DH for his reaction to 20 measly pounds. You really need your DH's support to get through this. Overeater Anonymous really helped my MIL with binge eating. [ Reply | More ]

Dh doesn't get it. He gets up at 5:00 a.m. each morning to work out - he does triathlons. He doesn't get the emotional part of eating... food is just fuel to him. [ Reply | More ]

So? In our house, that happens ALL the time. DH and I snuck candy out of DS's Halloween stash. Big deal. [ Reply | More ]

I'd like to address your freely accepting that reaction as okay from your child. Doesn't the food in your home belong to all of you? It's strange that a child would be allowed to assume that all the food or treats are his. [ Reply | More ]

np: ITA. I'd say the only bad parenting here is: 1) Your DH disrespecting you in front of your kids and 2) You thinking this is a big deal, and so your DS thinks this is some cardinal sin. [ Reply | More ]

i'd have to agree with you. she should have said that the ice cream was for everyone and that you'll get ice cream again next time. [ Reply | More ]

I want to add that you can't foster the self-loathing thing; you need to develop a more loving attitude towards yourself. 20 lbs overweight is not what defines you; that's dangerously low on the scale of what's really critical to your happiness and success. As for the husband-let him be angry at himself-he sounds like a self involved prat. Maybe he should offer to train together; if he's such a fittie he should understand how levels of suffering towards fitness are variable and offer support, not criticism. He sounds more like a control freak than an endorphin junkie. Maybe you should lose more than 20lbs; What does he weigh? [ Reply | More ]

i disagree. sometimes one person in the house has something special that belongs only to them. this is perfectly acceptable [ Reply | More ]

You could have said sorry to dc and offered to go to the store and get some more! It's OK, don't beat yourself up about it. You could be more playful about the "issue" with dc and yourself-- you don't have to be perfect! Do your best and try to find solutions in the moment, that's all. SO not a bad mommy moment :-) [ Reply | More ]

sorry, in this situation the correct answer is "i'm so sorry! i was looking for something in the freezer and took it out to make room. i forgot about it and when i found it later it had melted! i'm sorry baby, i'll get you new ice cream tomorrow) [ Reply | More ]

i disagree with all the above. coz if the roles were reversed and dh did what you did, you'd be giving him the evil eye and it would be justified. go lose weight and get healthy, if not for yourself then for longevity with your kids. [ Reply | More ]
