I got a bunch of pics taken by a photographer. There are about 30 in an online gallary with her banner across them. Is there anyway to save them? I'm going to by a lot, but the cheapest price for one pic is $20...so I'm not buying all 30. I just wish i could have gotten 3x5s of each pic just to remember them. So far I've saved a screenshot of each pic, and cropped it. It looks good, but it still has the banner. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Ah yeah, that is her copyright and it doesn't come off. That is so you don't reproduce them. [ Reply | More ]

op: I bought a bunch and did pay her, but I'd like a set of the small ones of the whole session, and she doesn't offer any option but $20 per shot. [ Reply | More ]

op: well I have digital copies of all of them now on Picasa, but they do have the banner on them. Its not too distracting though. The pixels aren't high enough for prints, but I'm satisfied with the digitals. I just though someone might now how to get around it. In the end, I got what I wanted for a price i can afford. Its just too bad there wasn't a 3x5 option, becuase there's no way I'm paying 20 a print. [ Reply | More ]

well, like I said, I bought several of the prints, I just wanted copies of the whole session for myself. Sorry - I'm not paying this lady 1K few pics of my belly. And I'm definitely not even considering sharing them with anyone but my husband anyway. I did them just for me. [ Reply | More ]

op: lady, simmer...I'm not paying for this lady to spend an hour at my house. how much do you make an hour? I know she spent a few hours editing the photos as well..but still. At 1K that would be 300 an hour. No way! I get my pics, but they haver her banner on them. I guess its a compromise. And like I said above, I did by many of the pictures. I understand that she's in business. I'm glad that you can afford more. I really can't though, its a big deal for me that I spent what I did on these pictures. [ Reply | More ]

WAIT!!!!! You are complaining about the price of reprints when you had the time, money and desire to have professional photographs of your pregnant belly! If you are wealthy enough to indulge yourself to this magnitude surely you can pay a few bucks to have some pictures reprinted. I think I really have heard everything now. [ Reply | More ]

op: clearly all of you wish that all photographers made mroe money than they do. Sorry...not all professions pay well. Some photographers make a lot, but there's a whole second level of them who are a dime a dozen. They aren't worth 1K per shoot, and that's not what I'm going to pay. Sorry. [ Reply | More ]

Then you should have hired someone different. And why on earth do you need 30 shots of your belly? (why does anyone want or need even one professional shot I don't know) [ Reply | More ]

Outside of schools and dept store studios, 3x5s aren't generally offered. It's an insulting format to a photographer's product. Didn't you hammer out options before contracting the photog? People like you really piss me off. [ Reply | More ]

op: I did - I told her that's what I wanted. Its not how she works I guess. I did pay upfront for the photo session, so I haven't thought twice about screen shotting the pics and cropping them. I will teach my child everything I know and am learning about technology as he grows :-) [ Reply | More ]

we're in software. Sorry lady - you are just pissed because many artist don't make the profit that you feel they should. I don't know what to tell you. I love art, and I'm willing to pay a certain amount, but the reality is that it doesn't get me to work, so I'm not willing to pay as much as a car for it. Seriously, I don't know what to tell you. This particular photograher seemed more than happy to take my business. She was excited when I place my order to. I support her and people like her, even though we're not rich. Not all professions pay the same. Not everyone makes a mint. [ Reply | More ]

You should've negotiated the price to include a disc of the photos. It sounds like you were the shady one and still are. You could've made your own crappy prints at the corner and maybe learned a lesson. [ Reply | More ]

She doesn't offer a book? My photographer sold me a book with 20 images for $65. That way I could have a keepsake of my favorite in one place without spending a fortune on individual prints. If I'd wanted additional images in the book it was $2 per page. (which if you think about it is like a $2 print) I would never try to use someone's copyrighted material, or print from it. Let me see if I can explain this.... you paid for a session and you get the prints you paid for. You don't get to have the prints you didn't pay for because you think they are too expensive. I assume you knew the pricing before you had the images taken. I would love to have say....a CL600 Mercedes (they are a little pricey)...I don't get to just take it because "I am not paying that" or "They wish they made more money selling these cars than they need to"...I just have to pick something I can afford, or shop somewhere else. See how that works? [ Reply | More ]

Try negotiating a custom print order; you'd be letting the photographer know there may be a market for alternative print format choices. If you're not willing to pay for prints, you'll have to live w/the COPYRIGHT label. I think you should stick to JCPenny or Olan Mills. [ Reply | More ]

I'll hope you find a way to clarify your understanding of a specialized service professional. You cannot be serious if you think prints aren't worth $20 per. The time, materials and test prints done to insure a quality repro aren't available at $20 in a real photographers business. Do you think the run to CVS w/the negs or discs? [ Reply | More ]

Also, if you think that paying for the paper the photo is printed on is the photographer's only expense, you are incredibly naive. How do you think the camera equipment, computer, insurance, website, marketing, continuing education, software (and the list goes on)...are paid for. You should have picked a photographer that you could afford, and you should be ashamed of yourself...seriously. [ Reply | More ]
