we recently went on a little weekend trip with family. my 28 month old nephew's behavior seemed pretty bad to me...or the fact that his parents discipline him by talking softly to him about how things aren't allowed, and then giving him extra attention. The kid was throwing rocks in areas where there were other kids. He would also fun (fast) away from his parents. Also, anytime he saw a snack of food around, he'd pick up the container and empty it on the ground. I was suprised because I think that he's old enough to know or at least learn that these behaviors aren't OK...but i don't remember what its like to have 2 year old. Is this normal? I think it sounds pretty normal (not that that is a good thing). [ Reply | More ]

So your kids are much older? Because Terrible Twos pretty much cover that behavior and lots more. [ Reply | More ]

my child is 5. So not giving time outs is normal for this type of behavior? [ Reply | More ]

Are you the time out police? Clearly you dont agree with their methods but it doesn't mean they aren't "normal" - whatever that means. [ Reply | More ]

op: when rocks are almost hitting my child's head 3 times a day it upsets me. I don't care what the discipline is called, but there should be some. [ Reply | More ]

You don't have to worry about his discipline or lack thereof. You just have to keep rocks away from him. Don't apologize, just keep them away from him. [ Reply | More ]

well, we were camping and they were all over the place. It was impossible..really. Are you saying he's too young to understand not to throw them at people? Because if he is, that's what I want to know. That's why I posted this question. [ Reply | More ]

Actually you wondered if it was normal behavior - and it sounds like we think it is. [ Reply | More ]

I think he's too young to understand the consequences of throwing rocks at people, but not too young to be -- at the very least -- redirected. Personally, I would have stepped in and loudly said "No throwing rocks." You're an aunt, so you have more latitude than a random stranger. [ Reply | More ]
