[ - ] Potty training question: Start boys standing up or sitting down? 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I did sitting for #2, because #1 ended up being afraid of sitting (and therefore of pooping). Hope it works, we just started. [ Reply | More ]

i feel like my ds can only go standing up when he really has to go. For those times when I ask him to try to use the potty before leaving the house or going to bed i don't feel like he relaxes enough to actualyl go when he's standing. (Therefore, i encourage sitting.) [ Reply | More ]

does she tell you before she goes? or does she only indicate after? b/c if she does tell you before she goes you could always start doing the old candy/reward for going on the potty deal - we gave ds a choice of any one piece of candy from the candy bowl (all-natural jelly beans, gummy bears, or mini marshmallows) if he went on the potty. after a month or so he had mastered it and no longer even asked for the candy reward. so maybe the first step is to determine if she can sense when she has to go. ask her to tell you. even if she doesn't use the potty. once she can tell you, try some kind of incentive to get her on the potty. (or, another option is to just put her in underwear one day - not letting her on the rug or sofa - and see what happens. tell her to let you know when she needs to go.) [ Reply | More ]

Went to potty training "class" and we were told to put kid on toilet every 20 minutes no matter what. If they made pee or poo, then reward big. They said it could be done over a weekend. We're going to try it soon. [ Reply | More ]

Do you think your ped would recommend that? I live out of the country where they pay very little attention to these issues so I'm pretty much on my own deciding when and if I need to investigate this. 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

this is so unnecessary. her chid has been helped by speech therapy, so you call her an idiot? my 17 db cannot walk - she's gets a lot of therapy. without therapy, perhaps she would have walked at 3, with therapy, maybe she will walk at 2. Am I an idiot too? She just started speech therapy, and I can see that it is helping - the therapists is trying a lot of techniques that I have not tried and after just one session I saw some change. So that makes me an idiot too? [ Reply | More ]

These posters are just uninformed. It's really unfortunate because their scorn often convinces people not to seek help, and I'll never really understand the attitude, but it's not worth replying to them. And it's another sign that these kinds of questions should be posted to the SN board only. Involving any other board is a bad idea. [ Reply | More ]

She is not too young for the bed, but maybe she is giving up her nap. We switched to a "quiet time" at about that age. Dc used to be allowed to look at books or play quietly, but had to stay in bed for a half hour. Also made bedtime earlier and easier btw. [ Reply | More ]

she's not too young. it may just take some time for her to get used to falling asleep during the day - more distractions, etc. My ds took about a month or two until he was napping "normally" in his bed. (He moved into it at the same age as your dd) Just stay consistent about having her get into her bed at naptime. See if you can enforce some kind of quiet rest time where she has to stay in her bed (or at least stay in her room). [ Reply | More ]

I don't think there is a best. I got a ring for our toilet and a potty chair for the living room. You can take the ring with you which is nice for db. Get a stool if you plan on using big toilet. Private school parents are buying as consumers their child's education - and if only it were that easy. Just ask college admission people. Talent and genious is passed out evenly through all sectors, thank g-d. Kids in public school can SEE that. Public education is the foundation of our democracy because kids learn the democratic process because they are LIVING it. If their Mom comes in to talk to a teacher or the office, and some person that you might not normally associate with is line ahead, well you get in line. No one has more "value" than anyone else. There are no big donors. When they are in middle school and learn their civics, government, and American history, "we hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal" they can get it. I know it sounds corny, but that is what public education does for the character of a child in the first years. I'm lucky to live in a good ps district but even here parents line up to pay for private. [ Reply | More ]

Been thinking about this lately too. We just moved into a house and so the last two months have been about nothing but shopping and buying. DS looked at me like I had to be kidding when I said no to a new toy the other day. [ Reply | More ]

It is kind of shocking to see this question. Materialism is a value - parents teach values. If you have solid, down-to-earth parenting (and modeling) your kids are secure and normal despite advertising, peers, community, etc. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] The guy I had a crazy crush on as a teenager just moved nearby. I am going mad - I can't stop thinking about him! A twenty-something year old unrequited love is a killer. I keep wondering, hoping... I know he recognized me and I could swear there was a spark. I am divorced but I think he is married with kids. omg, this sucks! anyone btdt? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
